    Which External Oil Combi Boiler?

Given that there's only about £100 difference in price in these two external combi oil boilers, and both are physically the same size, I guess may as well just opt for the second one, the E26C which has a higher flow rate of 22 L/min (compared with first option of 18 L/min). House has 3...

What minimum height off the ground would a home heating oil tank have to be to allow gravity feed? Thanks.

uPVC sash windows with run-through horns

I just had a look at the Quickslide, VS express, R9 and Rose Collection websites and yes they don't appear to have horns on the top rail of the lower sash either. Disappointing if wanting sashes to look as original as possible.

uPVC sash windows with run-through horns

I had a look at the Victorian Sliders website. The upper sash does have horns on the lower rail and so are visible externally; however, the lower sash does not appear to have horns on the upper rail and so there are no horns when the window is viewed internally. If they're wanting to keep...

uPVC sash windows with run-through horns

Would anyone be aware of any other brands of uPVC sliding sash windows which have continuous run through horns, other than the two below? Thanks. The Rose Collection https://www.sashwindowsuk.com and R9 sash windows That is, in order to avoid an obvious joint where horn meets rail such as below.

Fully opening window on first floor (safety issues)

That's interesting. If I look around my local area I see many 1st floor bedroom windows in residential houses which have casement uPVC windows with top openers only and would not allow escape. As a result I'd just assumed that only one escape window was required on the 1st floor; I'd also...

Fully opening window on first floor (safety issues)

Presumably the means of escape from any habitable room could be a fire escape window located in any one room of the 1st floor of a house, and not that each room on the 1st floor has to allow escape? (I'm referencing only a standard 2-storey house).

Fully opening window on first floor (safety issues)

Thanks. Yes, well one window upstairs would have to open fully as a fire escape, though would this be restricted to one window upstairs? Presumably people don't have fully opening windows such as this in a 1st floor bedroom that would be used by a child?

Fully opening window on first floor (safety issues)

There are obvious safety issues with regards to having windows such as those shown below on the first floor of a house. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on safety issues? Should this type of fully opening window only be installed on the first floor if the bottom of the window is a...

Who fits brick slips - Tiler or Bricklayer?

I guess that is non-hydrated lime. I had looked lime up on my local builders merchants website and they only had hydrated lime, but easy to get sand and cement.

Who fits brick slips - Tiler or Bricklayer?

To achieve the lime mortar does that simply mean adding hydrated lime to a sand/cement mortar mix? Out of curiosity, what is the benefit of adding lime?

Who fits brick slips - Tiler or Bricklayer?

Is mortar or a tile adhesive used to adhere brick slips to the walls inside a fireplace?

What tools do I need to make brick slips?

What tools would be required to produce some brick slips? I'd only be producing 100-150 slips as a one-off DIY job, so I wouldn't require high end equipment. I've cut through some bricks in the past with an angle grinder in order to cut them in half, but the finish of the cut is not of a quality...

Who fits brick slips - Tiler or Bricklayer?

If wanting brick slips fitted to the inside back wall of a fireplace, who should I be looking for to do this - a tiler or a bricklayer? That is, given that a brick slip is essentially a form of tile. Thanks.

Aquaflow 110mm Soil 92.5 Degree 2 Boss & Cast Iron Pipe

Thanks. Yes it is awkward as a section of the iron pipe goes immediately a heat outlet from an oil boiler so this part has to remain cast iron. I'm wondering if I'd require the first product above which has a socket end on top/bottom, whereas the second product only has a socket end on the...

Aquaflow 110mm Soil 92.5 Degree 2 Boss & Cast Iron Pipe

Would a 4 inch diameter cast iron pipe fit into the top of this and also the bottom of the Aquaflow 110mm product, or would any additional adaptors be required? The horizontal would be attached to a 110 mm plastic soil pipe. Thanks.

Touch Control Panel for Beko Tumble Dryer

A relative is looking for a touch control panel for a Beko Tymble Dryer. Would anyone happen to know where these can potentially be sourced online? They've enquired with a repairman and apparently could take 3 months to get one, though I don't know where they're sourcing from. Model: b5t4923iw

Pilkington Optiphon (cost) / Laminated sound reduction glass

How much more expensive (percentage wise) do you think DG units with Pilkington Optiphon laminated glass would be compared to DG units with standard double glazing glass? Alternatively, could two sheets of "regular" laminated glass (each of different thickness) be used in a DG unit to give a...
