    PC Specification

I think for basic usage any off the shelf pc would be ideal for you. The 2gb of ram you're talking about would purely be for running Vista, as all the other tasks you use your computer for would happily run on a 512mb / 1gb XP pc. Vista does seem to be a heavyweight, overloaded operating system...

Will my mcb be sufficent for new heater with current regs?

Thanks for your reply! First off we've tried all four hobs on full, 800w Microwave, kettle, dishwasher, extractor fan, tumble dryer & fridge all on at the same time and it hasn't tripped. We were told when the work was carried out that the sparky himself could not certify the work, which...

Will my mcb be sufficent for new heater with current regs?

This is bad news, we had it rewired a while back by a friend of a colleague whos gone awol but was a sparky, thing was when it came to fitting the kitchen nothing had been put in place for the hob, so with my limited knowledge I phoned him and he advised to put a 4mm cable from a 13a connection...

Will my mcb be sufficent for new heater with current regs?

Thanks for your reply John D. My hob is supplied from a 13A fused spur coming off the ring main but using 4mm cable (from the spur to the hob), does this make a difference or is it still not within regs?

Hi I've got a 32 Amp mcb on my kitchen ring which includes dishwasher, washing machine & tumble dryer all spured off and a fridge and kettle/toaster that are used. It also has a hob spured off of it rated at 5.8Kw! We also want to add a plinth heater which is rated at 1.8Kw, this is a plug...

Outside tap upside down on fitting

Hi Before I start I'm a real novice at plumbing so bear with me please :) I've purchased an outside tap and a sort of 'L' bracket for it to fit on to (15mm speed fit to 1/2" tap connector). I've also got the old bracket which was leaking but all the plumbing was ripped out and redone with...

Hi We're comming up to finishing our kitchen and have been keen on the idea of using a plinth heater (we couldn't afford underfloor after all the other work we've had done). I just assumed they were always electric but I've found some that can be linked in to my central heating system...

    Laminate splashback and hob regulation

Hi I'm not sure if tiling is the right area for this question but here goes... I'm just about to finish fitting my laminate splashback in the kitchen and have just read in the small print on a b&q catalouge today that it has to have a 150mm clearance from the hob / heat sources, otherwise...

    sizing newly plastered walls

Hi Fred Thanks again for your advice! Yea I did mean raised drips, but what you've said makes perfect sense as I thought I'd just get the cheapest tub of emulsion and mix it up with water but common sense should have told me cheaper = thinner  The finish has never been like glass...

    sizing newly plastered walls

Hi I was told with newly plastered walls to size them with a mixture of 50% emulsion 50% water before painting (to allow the plaster to absorb the moisture before putting emulsion on). When I did this though the solution was so runny that I ended up with drips that showed through the paint...

Haha it did occur to me but the bomb squad insisted they took it away. No doubt they disarmed it and put it on there themselves :)

Can you dry plaster out too quickly

Thanks Fred, I've seen them use them on TV DIY programs and wondered if it absorbs the moisture too quickly! Our kitchen fitters go the batroom to finish still so he wont be bored :) Cheers for the advice!
