    actually if you check the brochure on the maplin website - it does state that model does have DCCS - i.e. ability to control PTZ or zoom lens cameras through BNC and not need additional rs485 control wires

    only issue is that if cctvdirect supply hard disk it comes with 2 year warranty, but apparently only 1 year if not - which is odd as brochure actually says 3 years!

    from the avtech website for that model:- DVR / Camera Communication System (DCCS) �� For PTZ or zoom-lens control cameras, there’s no need to additionally connect RS485 control wires for camera control because the control signals can be transferred by coaxial cables directly.

    Thanks for info re wireless cameras etc - very handy to know I intend to only have email notifications for the inside camera which is protecting my home office - so nothing else should really set this off other than an intruder
