    Joining cables in wall

i have a bathroom fan and the isolator switch was placed next to the light switch. Which looks awful. I want to put the isolator above the door instead. But the cables are to short. How can I join the cables to extend them? I have read they can be crimped and sleeved, but I do not have the tool...

Resin shower tray .... Mortar or legs

I laid a 1200 x 900 resin tray on a mortar mix, was really easy to do, just don't make the mix to firm or sloppy. It is to take out unevenness in the base of the tray, otherwise it will crack over time. I just laid the mortar and lowered the tray from one side. Checked the level and it was done.

    Insulating an external wall?

Thanks for the advice, I didn't want to loose the width on the stairs as you have pointed out. Our hall is actually quite big. I've been insulating the loft today. I think that might be the main cause of my issues. I had new windows fitted at Christmas there appears to be a draft from under the...

    Insulating an external wall?

I have a 1930 semi, I belive it has a cavity wall. It is very cold to the touch in this weather and is therefore acting like a huge ice block in the hall area. Can I use Insulated plasterboard, dot and dabbed to insulate the wall? I have tried reading up but can only find its use on single skin...

    Soundproofing damp? (threads amalgamated)

You have to have the gap otherwise your new stud wall will just act like a speaker cone. You want to seal any gaps with an acoustic sealant or intumescent sealant. You are trying to separate the new wall from it's surrounding to stop vibrations being transmitted, you then put rockwall in the gap...

    CCTV worth fitting?

we are moving house and I'm thinking about fitting cctv, but do wonder is it worth it? Does it put people off or do dummy cameras work as well for that? If you have real cctv, does it have to be calibrated to use as evidence etc?. Sorry if this sounds silly, but not had it before.

    Replacing a porch

our house has a rather rubbish porch on it, it is not tied in and has a flat roof that is just joined to the house with stick on flashing. I'd like to replace this with a proper porch. Do I need planning or can I replace under PD? I know it has to be under a certain meterage etc.

Wireing a shower extractor with light

i have a man rose shower extractor with built in light. I wish for this to be on a separate light switch to the other bathroom lights, as it's above the shower cubicle and only needs switching in when that is used. My mate who is a sparky started wireing it up, but I think he is cutting a corner...

    Replacing conservatory

I have a feeling he is a an architectural designer, I was not convinced by his satatement. He was saying when it comes to sell it's better of you can show its planning rather than PD, I agree with you as long as its legal and meets building regs there would be no issue. I have read that you...
