    oak worktop problem?

no you can't really see anything other than the dark line. But when I run my finger over it you can tell it has risen slightly. I think I'll sand it and re-oil a few times and hope for the best Thanks!

    oak worktop problem?

Hi all, Have an oak worktop about a year old. I think I may have left a pool of water behind the sink (as you do) and today I noticed the joint has raised very slightly as if water has got in. Not sure if you can even see in the photo. I'm not someone who is concerned about the odd blemish...

    tool for smoothing concrete edge

Hi all, I'm building a step on my patio. The slabs I have used (cheap ones from Wickes) have such a sharp edge that I'm wary about using them for the step especially as we have a young child. Is there an easy way to smooth this edge slightly? Not looking to round it off completely, just...

    bi fold doors sticking issues

Hi all, Had some UPVC bifolds installed last summer and they have started sticking again. We had the problem after they had been installed and the installer came back a couple of times to toe and heel them. I'm thinking that since the installer is unlikely to come for free again (no...

    flag and brick doorstep

Thanks, yep I will get the gravel out and put some solid concrete down to fill the gap. I'm planning to use five 45cm slabs so 6 bricks would be against the wall if I did it that way. Am inclined to leave a small gap as the sill of the bifold doors will hide it anyway. You'd only see the gap...

Patio Extension - New Build. Colour Matching

I'm no expert but they look buff to me. I recently rebuilt my patio using partly old slabs that I had and new ones. I had a similar dilemma, but went for buff and there are a good match - although I mixed the slabs up so a precise match wasn't necessary.

    flag and brick doorstep

Hi all Having laid my patio successfully, I now want to build a simple doorstep on it, similar to the one on Paving expert http://www.pavingexpert.com/featur01.htm Speaking to a mate, he advised leaving an inch gap between the step and the house wall, which I'm inclined to go along with...

Digging up garden, what to do with the dirt?

assuming its rubbish soil a skip is your best bet - you can get soil only ones which are a bit cheaper Another possible option if your garden is big enough is just dumping it elsewhere in the garden to make a raised bank. I did this but I have a big garden, may not be an option in a new build

    another patio question!

hmmm on second thoughts having read loads of reviews and advice I think I'll just point it properly with a building sand/cement mix. Even if it takes me a whole day it sounds like it will last better than these brush-in mixes.

    another patio question!

Thanks. That stuff seems very expensive. Are the cheap ones any good at all? I'm re-using old concrete slabs so its not going to be the most perfect patio ever and the finish does not have to be absolutely perfect! I've ordered some of those gapfast spacers as well

    another patio question!

thanks, appreciate the tips. Was planning to point with a ready mixed brush in mortar to keep things easy. Are there any you recommend? For the bed I'm thinking individual bedding, am planning to use a 10:1 mix slightly moist as recommended by paving expert, but slightly confused as to whether I...

    another patio question!

ok, going to order slabs, sand, MOT etc for this bank holiday weekend. My question is how long will it take someone who has never laid a patio before? 80 flags 45cm square in a basic stack bond layout. No cutting involved. The area has been measured and dug out. I'm thinking the sub base can be...
