using oak worktop to make shelves

Hi all, We have quite a bit of oak kitchen worktop left over from our new kitchen. We planned to get some shelves made from it but having spoken to a carpenter he has warned us off saying they might warp in time and aren't really suitable for shelves. Would you go along with this? Cheers

About to start a patio project and am just at the stage of working it all out There is an existing downpipe and gully leading to soakaway, which I will put the slabs around. Problem is the level of the gully is slightly (maybe 5cm) below the level the patio is going to be. So I'm trying to...

another quick question: Do you need edging on a patio? I've read conflicting things. Some seem to suggest no while others mention edging kerbs set in concrete or plastic spike things

    patio join to concrete path

Thanks The angle is quite exaggerated, I should have said. The gap would only be maybe 10cm at the house side if I laid them without cutting. I'm quite keen to keep things simple and avoid any cutting! I guess another option would be to plant a shrub or something in the gap to cover it up.

sealant around gas hob in wooden worktop

Hi, when this was fitted they used a kind of sticky putty type stuff and it looks really manky already and is coming off. Any reason why they didn't use clear silicone like they did around the sink? What should we seal this with? Thanks!

Hi, Just had an extension built with bi-fold doors opening out into the garden. The old patio now needs re-laying, which I'm going to try myself as we have no money left. The current height of the ground outside is about 20cm step down. I know the guidelines are 15cm below damp proof...
