    The most common cause i've seen for the main fuse getting hot is a loose live terminal at the cut-out. I've seen it at the meter too causing the meter to start melting.

    Thanks for the replies very intersting. I know this building is a very old stone cottage. So the wiring is probably ancient. I am trying to work out whether i would be able to take the electrical accesories i.e. consumer unit, sockets pendants with me or i would have to buy them out there.

    The cpc will still need to be bonded to extraneous conductive parts, this could be done by running a 4mm earth from the FCU. The FCU would need to be in or outside zone 3 and readily accessible.

    You must use a 30mA RCD. Also be careful on your MCB size as it depends on the size of the cable u can use.
