Live/Netrual which way round on ballast please?

Hi all, just got a replacement ballast for my fishtank. Everythings exactly the same spec. The only thing that isn't the same is that instead of saying L and N it has a symbol between the two points that's a ~ above a - I've googled electrical symbols but have come up with nothing like...

After something similar to (but not) drawer runners

Hi all Hope someone can point me to what I need. Best way I can describe is with this bad drawing The green upside down U shape on my drawing needs to slide forwards and back on the desk, hence really I want some sort of runner/rail that fits onto the top of the desk and the bottom...

shower trap waste to solvent weld

Hi all I'm using 40mm solvent weld for my shower waste, but all the traps I've seen are pushfit (well compression). I've purchased one trap and the 40mm pipe fits very loosely into it. Tightening the compression nut, does tighten the pipe in that I don't think it will leak, but as it's...

    Shortening a bathroom floor joist

Thanks. Have ended up doing the following, adding two small joists either side of the hole. There's a hopper for the bathroom sink about 5ft to the right of where the hole is for the shower trap, so I intend to go straight through the outside wall and go diagonally right into it. Am...

    Shortening a bathroom floor joist

Many thanks all I will add a small joist alongside the trap as suggested. Sistering the actual joist will still be too tight against the hole. Only problem I'm going to have with sistering is the pipework running through the joists, having to cut, remove and replace it to sister the...

    Shortening a bathroom floor joist

Hi all Best described by pics below (not at all to scale), am installing a U shaped shower in my bathroom, unfortunately, the stone resin shower tray has the waste over the top of one of the joists. I could raise the shower but would prefer not to. As I already have the ceiling taken...

    Hole size for 15mm speedfit

Probably my stupidest question yet :) Running a length of 15mm speedfit through my floor joists. Does it expand or can I simply use say a 16mm drill for the holes please? Thanks

    Raising my shower tray

oops  Just read the tips sticky and it's covered in there. Yes I can use WBP ply instead of marine :) Typical, centre of waste hole in tray is 140mm in from the edge, which is right across the middle of one of the joists, if it wasn't for that, I wouldn't need to raise it at all.

    Raising my shower tray

Hi all. Can I use 18mm exterior ply to raise a stone resin tray that will be set/levelled in sand/cement/PVA or does it have to me marine ply please? Cant seem to find marine in under 8x4 sheets and it's VERY expensive. thanks

    Megaflo output pipe size

Hi all, me again Currently my megaflo 22 mm output goes a roundabout route to my bathroom and is around 12mtrs in length. Once it gets to the bathroom, it goes down to 15mm and feeds a basin about 1mtr away and a shower about 2 1/2 mtr away (making shower nearly 15mtrs away from megaflo)...

Do I need a Bar Mixer Bracket when installing shower?

[/url] Thanks, at that price I don't mind giving them a go. Was very reluctant to shell out for the Triton ones though :)

    Help with crimping

The first ones I brought had a completely different jaw layout to the CK ones. Both sides were exactly the same. If you zoom into the jaws http://www.screwfix.com/p/forge-steel-ratchet-crimping-tool/70036# what you see is exactly the same if you look at it from the other side. The CK...

Do I need a Bar Mixer Bracket when installing shower?

Hi all I can see the benefit of using say http://www.screwfix.com/p/triton-bar-mixer-fixing-for-buit-in-pipes/93675 but it also seems a lot of money to pay for something that I would have thought would be quite simple for the competent diyer to sort out? I've got a heavy Triton Mixer and...

    Help with crimping

Only thing that concerns me with soldering, is the heat shrink is a lot thinner than the plastic surrounding the cable. I have a box of various sizes but it doesn't give any indication for it's suitability to be used for mains cable. Or to put it another way, I presume the blue and brown...

    Help with crimping

Interesting debate :) Well I've spent £50 in total including heat shrink stuff, I hope it's not money down the drain. I brought it as people were saying that to do it right I shouldn't use junction boxes but should crimp instead. Screwfix out of stock so wont get crimper until tomorrow...

    Help with crimping

Thanks all. I have tried adjusting them, still the same. Have decided I'll take the crimper's back and get their CK ones as I've read various posts saying CK stuff should be good quality. Then I'll see how I get on and will know whether it's me or the tool :) Also, what is...
