    Ground source heat pumps

Ok understood thanks - what about hot water? Do most people have separate hot water heating, given that the circulating temperature of the GSHP is relatively low?

    Ground source heat pumps

Sorry doitall, I'm confused here. You say its daft to fit rads in new build, and then in your next line you talk of oversized rads and getting away with it - away with what, please explain. confused self-builder

    Ground source heat pumps

Thanks everyone for your replies - I went to the self build centre in Swindon recently and got some good information, but I'm really interested in knowing if such a system can provide enough heat - i.e. similar to a typical CH system with wet rads and a boiler. I've never been in a house with...

    Ground source heat pumps

We are thinking of self-build next time around, and being mindful of the current environmental problems, we like the idea of installing a ground source heat pump. Question for all you pro installers out there and anyone who has gone down this route, any general advice or tips? I understand...

    Replacing TRV spindle

Thanks twgas, If I replace the whole valve, will the joint between the micro bore pipe and valve body remain water tight afterwards, or do I have to solder a new tail extension onto the existing pipe with a new olive?

As I said in my post, the original (leaking) washer appears slightly smaller in diameter than the new ones I am trying to fit. Could it be that the seat...

    Faulty replacement tap washers?

After the hot tap in our bathroom started dripping recently, I got out my trusty emergency plumbing kit and replaced the washer with a new one from my spares box. Thinking that would be the end of the matter I turned the water back on only to find that the tap was now dripping even worse than...

    Heating oil tank

Hi Cozzmic, Thanks for that, it is a large house and I opted for a 600 gallon tank to save on frequent re-fills. I'll check the OFTEC site for more info - thanks

    Heating oil tank

We are selling our house and the buyers survey report said that our oil tank was too close to the dining room window, and that it should also be bunded. Is this right for a normal domestic property, I thought this would only apply to commercial premises?

Energy saving bulbs & time switches

I have a PIR sensor at the front of the house, and the porch light blew a while ago and I replaced it with a low-energy type without reading the box (never do). Sure enough within about 2-3 weeks the new bulb was no longer working and when I took it out the base containing the elctronics was...
