Hi all you pro plumbers out there. A couple of my TRV's are starting to weep slightly around the spindles. Is it possible to repair / replace just the spindle, or do I have replace the whole spindle assembly?

TIA

TRVs don't usually have spindles

are they ordinary valves?

Or do you mean the pin?

A photo will help.

Is there a small brass nut round the bottom of the spindle?

Hi JohnD,

Sorry didn't know what they were called - I guess its the pin. Its a Myson model fitted about 10 years ago. Sometimes they get stuck in the closed position as well.

looks to me a complete valve replacement is best bet

Thanks twgas,

If I replace the whole valve, will the joint between the micro bore pipe and valve body remain water tight afterwards, or do I have to solder a new tail extension onto the existing pipe with a new olive?

microbore :(

you can get 8mm and 10mm reducers that fit into a 15mm fitting instead of an olive

you can also get microbore-sized valves

I have never used either

I am just a householder

Clean all the paint off with wire wool
if it is difficult to seal you can use LSX as if it was jointing paste.
