Adding sockets to downstairs ring + possible spur query.

that looks fine and yes you can bring one spur off the ring Two points: How do you know that it IS a ring - just coz a socket has 2 cables it doesn't necessarily mean so! If it's not a ring, you could just be adding spurs on spurs which would be a problem if the fuse/breaker is 32A Is...

How many LV lights in a lounge, guidance needed

I agree - not good lighting for a living room Why not go for a nice central light and then use table/floor lights to supplement eg for reading/atmosphere. You can wire special lighting plugs to these and fit lighting sockets on a switch or dimmer - quite classy (even if I say so myself) - I have...

    Earthing Spike and RCD

Fitting 1 RCD upfront of your fuse board is a rough solution - if it trips you loose all power and all lights. If I was your sparky I'd be upgrading the fuse board to dual RCD or even all rcbo's. To do board upgrade I'd need to test all circuits to make sure there were no faults (such as N to E...

thanks for replies folks - you learn something every day, eh? The voltage I was getting was on the load cables of a light, so not accessible and I was getting no glowing when the light off but the other switched on Cheers SB

    Socket's and Mini Trunking

    Socket's and Mini Trunking

The ONLY problem with conduit is that dust, fluff and dirt collects around the back and saddles. Trunking is much easier to keep clean SB And yes, I'm female......

induced voltage - when is it not??

thanks spark123 So now I see why it might go up when I switched on a light, but I suppose I should have asked - is 60V OK and nothing to worry about?!?! I am assuming of course that it WAS induced - how can I tell? Would I be getting 50 Hz on mains and 0 Hz on induced??? SB

induced voltage - when is it not??

Hi all Just wondered if there is a level at which induced voltage becomes real voltage? Is it 230V? Job today where I was getting 60V on a lighting circuit when a light on another circuit was switched on. And 11V when off. The cables run out of the fuse board together for some distance as...

    Recessed spotlights

You can get plates to cover the holes and then fit GU10's - but think these only go up to 120mm http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Lighting_Menu_Index/Lighting_Downlights_Index/Downlight_Converter_Kit/index.html I have in the past fitted bigger ones, but can't remember who made them -...

LED Lightbulbs - Flickers and goes out (1 out of 10)

is it on a dimmer? This might be causing the problem.... If not then it must be the fitting. Try one of the bulbs you know is good fro the other lights and see if you get the same problem. Make sure it's screwed in nice and tight

Tracking down non standard size T5 fluorescent lamp, please!

Hi everyone A customer needs a new lamp - Its a T5 6 watt for under cabinet fitting. BUT it's not the standard length I've tried searching on line, but didn't get very far. I think from memory that MFI used to supply odd sized ones, but they're bust now... The lamp length end of pins to...
