    Led lighting

As suspected the unit is faulty. I swapped the dimmer for an on/off and it was still dim. The instructions stated the brightness can be changed by flicking the switch quickly. Most bizarre. So I did and it went bright like a solar flare, and then went dim again, then bright and dim and so on all...

    Led lighting

Don’t know what that is, sorry. I am going to replace the dimmer with a standard on/off switch. If ok, then I’ll purchase an led dimmer. If not, then it’s gonna get returned.

    Led lighting

I have replaced the whole lighting unit. I haven’t isolated the dimmer. The system is a two way. One dimmer and one on/off at the other side of the room.

    Led lighting

The led lamp says dimmable. The dimmer fitted does not state led compatible. So presuming not. The old lamp used G9 halogen. Little fellas with two legs, look like Plankton from Spongebob. I am asking as before I splash out on new switches, will a compatible dimmer solve the dimness? The lamp...

    Led lighting

Hi. I have replaced a halogen ceiling lamp with a led one. The switch is a standard dimmer. When turned on the lamp glows but is dim and the dimmer has no effect. Will a led dimmer solve the problem? In that, the lamp glows brighter as well as dimming. Thanks for any advice.

    Cracked Asbestos soffits

But I can’t remove without council consent.

    Cracked Asbestos soffits

With removal, drilling, sanding a big NO NO, is capping with upvc and frame sealant going to pose any problems with regulations? I know capping is not the ‘correct’ method of soffit refurbishment, but seems the only option left.

    Cracked Asbestos soffits

My concern is the fractures that may reveal and release fibres inches from the bedroom windows. The soffits are about an inch above the top of the window

    Cracked Asbestos soffits

Hi. I have some concerns regarding cracked and crazed soffit boards. I am sure they are some form of asbestos, presuming ACB as they are about 5mm thick and very hard. However, as they are crazed and cracked does this pose a danger? The house is council owned, built early to mid 1960s. I will...

    Loft insulation and boarding

One more thing. Will the foil covering cause any condensation problems?

    Loft insulation and boarding

Thanks John. That's me sorted. Cables: The shower cable runs right next to hatch so it won't be covered. The rest is lighting. So that's great for me. I hadn't thought of using the celotex, but having had a read, that's the way forward.

    Loft insulation and boarding

Currently I have 4"x2" joists with 18" centres, and filled with 4" of insulation. There are two brick walls directly underneath the loft that the loft floor rests on. Longest unsupported span is 3m. I wish to board the loft for light storage only but add some extra insulation. Plan: Lay 50mm...

    Qualifications to fit a boiler

I did thank them for employing a very professional outfit. However, their scheme is designed to increase their profits. It is not a charitable scheme and therefore ultimately it is their responsibility to ensure the work carried out by their Accredited Installers meets all the guidelines. It is...

    Qualifications to fit a boiler

Although I am a qualified tradesman, gas and electricity are not my fields and hence I am more than willing to for 'peace of mind'. Unfortunately the route I chose through Trusted Trader and WBosch could not have been worse. The schemes have two losers; consumers and the genuine good guy...

    Qualifications to fit a boiler

I thought the existence of Which? was about consumer protection. I am wrong. Their Trusted Trader scheme and allegiance with the manufacturer both prove profit. The consumer comes second. Scandalous.

    Qualifications to fit a boiler

I did contact Which? and sent them photos and the engineer's damning report. Not only have they removed my feedback, I'm not allowed to use their legal advice helpline against Trusted Traders. So, for whose benefit is this scheme? It's a great advertising platform for traders who then get...

    Qualifications to fit a boiler

My view on accredited scheme is thus: The manufacturer sets up a scheme whereby installers attend training to fit their boilers. This scheme is then used as a marketing ploy to provide the customer with a source of installers through which a boiler can be purchased. The manufacturer therefore...

    Qualifications to fit a boiler

The reason ask is a little convoluted. I had a combi replacement boiler by a local 'trusted' and 'accredited' firm. On top of some pretty appalling pipework and other bodges, there were numerous electrical blunders, one of which sent me across the kitchen floor. Live pipe! Another firm was...

    Qualifications to fit a boiler

Hi All. In order to replace a heat only boiler with a combi boiler, would a qualified electrician be required? Or can a plumber with only plumbing qualifications carry out the task? Obviously there is a lot to consider such as boiler supply, changing thermostats, removing and making safe...
