    Solder Ring- - First timer

Sorted! Keeping the torch moving and heating the whole joint first, seems to be the key... adding extra solder too. Thanks for the advice!

    Solder Ring- - First timer

Never used solder ring connections before. Tried soldering a T joint which always seeps! After all parts have been assembled, where should I hold the blowtorch? In the middle of the whole connection attempting to melt the solder at all three ends at the same time, or, from each end...

ball valve or gate valve ?

I want to install a simple "drain-off" point from my central heating system. Some existing pipework runs alongside an outside wall in my kitchen underneath the sink. At the lowest point, if I install a "T" joint and a valve to the pipework, run a copper pipe through the wall to the outside...

    heated flooring

I would like to know if it's satisfactory to lay 10mm "marmox" insulation boards onto an existing "vinyl tiled" concrete floor (kitchen). The purpose of which is to then lay (on top) a heated floor cable, then tile. Or, is it necessary to remove the existing vinyl tiles first. If i knew i...

    Socket Screws

Can anyone tell me where to get the longest "accessory screws" for fixing 13a socket fronts to a recessed pattress box. I have recently had a wall re-plasterboarded and tiled. A 50mm screw is just about 15 mm too short. Any ideas ?

    Leaking stopcock

I have a "slightly" leaking "underground stopcock/tap" at the boundary of my property. Who's responsibility is it for fixing it, mine or the water company? The problem is that the earth surrounding the hole keeps collapsing in on itself and I keep having to dig it out when I need to turn the...

    Kitchen ventilation issue

I have a domestic cooker hood with a built in extractor fan which currently ventilates to an outside wall via about 6ft of "bog standard" plastic circular ducting (the stuff that looks like a "slinky spring toy" with plastic coat on!). I am currently having a single storey kitchen...

    Earthing Rod ?

I am just having a small kitchen extension built at the back of the house which, naturally, requires a deep foundation. For the sake of an extra £10.00 and five minutes work, would it not be beneficial at this point to install an "earth rod" to supplement my existing installation (which i...

    Bathtap Nut

I've lost the little nut that secures the tap "head" to the top of the pillar (with the knurled end)on my bathtap. Blow me - but I can't find anything to replace it. I've tried a 4mm x 12mm machine screw with a slotted pan head, but its just a fraction too narrow. The next size up is 5mm but...
