shower light operated from shower switch

Thanks for the replies guys. Given I already have the 10 mm stuff in place, the flow switch seems like a winner. Had never heard of it! thanks again

shower light operated from shower switch

I an renovating a bathroom and installing IP 65 GU10 ceiling lights. I would like to have a light over the shower which is only on when the shower is- so relaxing in a bath does not involve a downlighter in the eyes. But if I wire it on the shower circuit with its 45A breaker, presumably I...

    connecting PEX to copper

Thanks guys Compression fitting always struck me as more convincing but wondered if that was just age prejudice against new fangled inventions. Push fit seems too good to be true! :D

    connecting PEX to copper

I want to add radiators to an existing system and assume PEX barrier will be the best material for the new pipework. I wondered if I should connect to the copper using a standard compression fitting or just use a PEX straight pushfit connector. What is normal practice? ( and why?- if anyone...

size of tails for a wall mounted bath filler

Thanks for the replies. But it isn't the cold feed that is likely to be the determining factor? The hot water is tank storage and there is only about 3 metres of head for the hot tank,at best. And I am still curious as to why manufacturers would even make bath taps/fillers with 15mm rather...

size of tails for a wall mounted bath filler

I am fitting a shower bath for a friend who chose a wall mounted bath filler. The unit the showroom supplied came with 15mm flexi tails. I suggested that 22mm is the right diameter for bath supply but in fact finding a unit with 22mm inputs has proved difficult. Starting to wonder if 15mm...

making sure existing plaster is sound?

I am re-tiling an old bathroom and the existing tiles have come off really easy - worryingly easy- leaving traces of the original adhesive. The wall surface is plaster on brick and probably original ( Victorian). The plaster seems securely bonded to the brick. What is the best surface...

plastic on to clay 6" socket

I bought an adaptor to fit to an old 6" clay socket under my 19th century house. The adaptor looks as though it should fit right into the pipe with the disc stop fitting into the shoulder of the socket. But it seems too tight to do that I thought about grinding it down and of course using a...

why is an expensive bath better?

Thanks to you all for the warning about cheap baths. So I guess that 3mm is cheap rubbish. I see a lot of adverts for 5 mm baths though. Any point looking at them or should I go for 8mm?

why is an expensive bath better?

Serious question. I can pay £400 or £1200 for an acrylic bath. Given the effort of installation, I have no problem with the idea of using good quality stuff- but what am I paying the extra for? I realise about false economy but don't want to waste cash either. So, what does the more expensive...

    what is acceptable humidity reading?

Ah, I think I get it! It's probably a bad idea to be measuring this in Summer because the inside temp and outside temp are likely to be similar- the CH is, after all, off! I will get a better idea when the heating is running in Winter. Thanks for the reply

    what is acceptable humidity reading?

Helping a friend renovate a flat I have found some damp- probably rising damp- so put a hygrometer in the room. It typically reads about 70%. But living in the west of Scotland it is usually more than that outside. Information on the internet suggests a room should be about 50% but I have...

    creating slope on flat roof

I am putting a flat roof on my brick built garage - 20ft by 14ft - and want to create a decent fall. Firrings seem difficult to organise in these lengths. Would it be easier just to make one wall a course of brick higher?

    Damp plaster

Hi The wall is an interior wall, about 5 metre s long made of single brick. There is no plumbing above floor level. The brickie knocked away the brickwork below floor level down to sub-floor ground level, a distance of about a metre and built up in engineeering brick with a dpc about half...

    Damp plaster

My old house had one damp interior wall - no dpc- so I got a bricky to replace all the wall below floor level in engineering brick and with a modern DPC. Some years later I now find the wall is damp again to bout 400mm above the floor level. What could be causing this?

    Potterton Prima "reset button"

Thank you! :D So it's likely to be a circulation problem. I think the pump might be over 10 years old. Would it be a good idea to replace it anyway?

    Potterton Prima "reset button"

On the bottom of the case of my potterton boiler is a reset button. In the past it has occasionally "popped out" and needs to be pressed in again to allow the boiler to operate. Recently this has become a frequent occurence and a nuisance. I have never understood what it is protecting- what...

    secondary circuit and bronze pump

HI I posted a question on how to solve the problem of a hot tank too far from the taps meaning a long wait for the water to run hot at the basin. I got my reply ( thanks :D ) but don' t know how to do it. So how do I implement a secondary circuit and what is a bronze pump?
