    Refurbishing my first house

Our local skip company does plasterboard bags. Since the charges came in at the dumps, so much of this must be going into general waste bins!

Is it possible to lower a concrete floor by a few mm?

Diamond grinding cup with dust extraction ideally would do it, but not a very nice job. Can you lay a thinner floor like LVT?

    diy dust control

I had a cheap wet and dry vac from lidl that I got fed up with cleaning the filter on. Could only get paper bags which were rubbish and split. Recently got a Nilfisk Multi II 30T which is so much better. Fabric bags that hold a huge amount and don't lose much suction as they fill. I've had it...

Plain roof tiles on an 11 degree pitched roof?

I think the only tile you could use that would be in spec is Forticrete Centurion.

    Hengst filters stockists?

Why do you need Hengst out of interest? I always use Mann filters from eurocarparts.

    New porch roofing work rough?

Do you think that was already present, or has been added? I wasn't able to do too much poking around at the time and don't live near.

    New porch roofing work rough?

I've circled the detail that I can't see how it can be weathered properly with what has currently been done. I can't see what stops water going behind that tile and in to the eaves. The wall below is sopping wet and going green. The silicone perhaps even making this all worse by blocking the...

    New porch roofing work rough?

My parents have had a porch built with a flat roof cut into the existing pitched roof. The walls are damp externally so I took a quick look at the roof and thought it looked rough. The dampest part is to the left of the front door. The builder has come back and squeezed a tube of silicone in...

Safe way of testing for hydrogen?

I did this myself with a small shot glass, certainly made me jump, a bit more than a pop! Took a flush with cleaner and new inhibitor to stop the hydrogen. It was a brand new system which was meant to have been flushed clean already!

How to cover this concrete slab?

Proper finish would be to skim it with plaster. If you add beading on the edge, a small patch like that isn't too hard to have a go at.

    BBC bias

Did you see all the examples though? Listening to Laura Kuenssberg, I'm more convinced than ever of her preference to the conservatives.

How to fix existing floor joists to new RSJ

FYI, I would call them ceiling joists. They aren't there really to act as a floor.

How to fix existing floor joists to new RSJ

Our structural engineer offered twist straps as an option in this scenario. I preferred to cut some pockets in the ceiling and use joist hangers. But the ceilings getting replaced anyway. If all you want to do is stiffen it up and take the bounce out, then i guess anything will do.

How to fix existing floor joists to new RSJ

He said he can't disturb the ceiling so how would he get hangers in under the ceiling joists?

How to cover this concrete slab?

I'd go with a strip of plasterboard and foam adhesive.

What do I need for Home wired network installation?

I generally get my networking gear from https://www.comms-express.com/categories/cat6-cable/

What do I need for Home wired network installation?

You could do either either. The second option requires a punch down tool which are pretty cheap. Also a cheap cable tester is very handy.

    Conduit to allow for rewiring

Yes, it was for that reason that I put in 2 x 20mm conduit for each socket when we rewired as agreed with the electrician.

    Conduit to allow for rewiring

Because the OP is only running conduit for the drops so he can do the chases and make good beforehand. Through the floor/ceiling space it's not going to be in conduit I don't imagine.

    Conduit to allow for rewiring

True, not as easy, but still goes with space to spare. I put in 2 x 20mm conduit to each socket in my house, overkill really, but made cabling simple.
