Central heating and possible sludge issues

mmm ... looks like I have an issue. Withe Central heating off I shut off the valve feeding the F&E tank and drained a decent amount of water from the system via the radiator on ground floor. The F&E tank was unbelievably filthy with deposits so I cleaned all that up. I then added the X400 to...

Advice on architect fees and finding the right one

Not that I am not competent to draw 'a' plan (having spent the last 2 yrs learning to use modelling softwares for 3d printing), I think it's best for me to leave it to the pros and learn as much as I can this 1st time around. I will have a better grasp of things on the next project. I was going...

Advice on architect fees and finding the right one

wow, with all the info above this project is getting more daunting from conception. What I am taking away from this is that I have to go by recommendation to avoid cowboys (and girls) and make sure its a qualified designer/technician that can draw plans and building reg plans and deal with all...

Advice on architect fees and finding the right one

Thanks guys for the clarity I have always assumed the Architect/draftsman were the only ones involved with detailed drawings. I have never asked in any of the houses price they paid for there services. I would be putting them in a difficult position if its something they don't want to share...

Central heating and possible sludge issues

Sorry for late reply. So I removed the worst radiator and blasted it with the power washer. This seem to dislodge a lot of sludge that came out like black paint over the driveway. It took a while for it to clear out, though I doubt I got it all. The radiator was a lot better though. I may just...

Advice on architect fees and finding the right one

Hi all, we are thinking of having a top and ground floor side extension. So far I have been gathering numbers of builders and architects from houses nearby where Extensions have just been completed. My Question is wherever or not this is the way to go when looking for an architect. Also please...

Central heating and possible sludge issues

Hi all, I had a feel of a radiator behind one of the sofas and noticed that it was very hot at the top and Luke warm in the middle and bottom. I checked the other radiators and they were similar though no where as bad. I am assuming this is built up sludge in the rads but no blockages to the...

    Immersion heater removal

I just had to ...... when it was only an electrical component that required no messing around with gas/gas pipes. Also After just paying £276 for homecare, I was not willing to drop another £500ish to replace fan and cover. I did manage to get refurbished parts of both for £90. No point paying...

    Immersion heater removal

BG has just left. I was told the fault on my Boiler (potterton prima 40F) was the fan and it will cost me about £400!. I am not covered because my cover started 2 days before my fault. That's a lot of money for fan replacement considering price for the fan is between £50 and £90. Am I better...
