    Signing off work.

Is it legal for a non registered electrician to complete a re-wire for instance and get a registered electrician in to sign it off? I assume it is as long as the registered sparky will do it of course. Just wanted a few views on this. Thanks.

    SWA used as meter tails

Would the tape be enough or does it need heat shrink tubing? Or any other ideas?

    SWA used as meter tails

I did some work over the weekend on a house and found that the tails from the meter had been extended through a 60Amp fuse and breaker using 25mm 4 core SWA. It's been terminated under the floorboards (around 10m away) above the CU using a metal junction box. Three of the tails then extend...

    Notifiable works?

Thanks ericmark. You're correct, as it is easy to miss something and at least this way I only have myself to blame if I read it incorrectly. All sorted now. Thanks again for your help.

    Notifiable works?

Is changing a one-way switched lighting circuit in a hallway into a two-way switched circuit notifiable? All I'm going to do is run a 3 core T&E from the existing switch to another new one. Thanks in advance.

    Magnuss

One 100A Main switch x2 30mA RCD's with 8 MCB's. (sorry i said 10 before, but i meant 8! It's been a long week.) And the paperwork with it claims that it is all designed and manufactured to the latest British Standard. Just spoke to my boss and he's heard nothing bad of them but he's never...

    Consumer Units.

Well you are entitled to your opinion, as wrong as it may be. I try not to get into petty arguments. Life is too short. Anyway i'm off to use these helpful forums to ask questions and get good solid advice, as they were intended to be used. Thanks again for the advice.

    Magnuss

Thanks. Yes that's the one in the photo-ish! It's a 17th edition fully loaded for £57 (x10 MCB's) The shop has only been opened a few months and he seems to be cheap for most things. And that is without an account. (most things i buy are through my boss's account in Neweys). I bought one...

    Consumer Units.

So i take it i'm the only one around here that can't joke and have a bit of a laugh??? I'm serious about electrics and serious about being safe and legal. I never cut corners and do what is expected of me even though it actually costs me a small fortune (£300 for the council to test and...

    Consumer Units.

Thanks to all for the input. I just need a small consumer unit for 4 circuits. Maybe I should just say that I discussed the changing of the consumer unit prior to the 17th regs coming live and fit a 16th edition instead, if the client is happy!!! Then it's allowed, but hard to prove. Thanks...

    Magnuss

I've just had a good offer of a fully loaded consumer unit made by Magnuss. But I've never heard of the make and just wondered if anyone out there has and if they are any good. It says that they are made to the correct specs. ie. BSEN60439-3 etc. Thanks.

    Consumer Units.

Load of small old houses with the an old re-wirable fusebox have say 4/5 circuits. Two for the ring mains, one for the lighting and say a cooker and/or shower. What CU should be used if exchanging the old one? To me it's a bit overboard sticking in a 17th edition one in with two RCD's. Can i...

    Price for Registration!!

I've recently decided to join the NICEIC as an approved contractor. In doing this, as you will all be aware of, I have to have several "jobs" under my belt. So I called my local council and asked for info on getting building control out to test and inspect my work. After gaining some useful...

Running SWA along an external wall.

Just to say thanks. I channelled the wall out at one corner and did the 'S' bend on the other. Was a bit sceptical but it looked great. Although they said they'd paint it anyway to blend it in with the wall!!!! Thanks again.

Running SWA along an external wall.

It's 2.5 mm 3 core, and it will be about 8 inches from the deck. I'll have a go at channelling the corner out first then if i'm still unhappy i'll do the 'S' bend thing. Thanks.

Running SWA along an external wall.

Hopefully a quick one. What is the best way to run SWA around the outside corner of an external wall. I don't want to strain the cable by bending it too tight? It will be just clipped directly to the wall. Thanks.

    SWA terminations

Thanks for your help. I'm going to use a conduit box with the 20mm gland screwed in as you said. I'll then use the pre-drilled threaded hole in the box to earth it to the installation. I'm still going to use three core and earth the garage sockets in the usual way. And it will be fully...

    SWA terminations

Hi. What's the best and neatest way to finish off a SWA cable going through a wall? I don't like the idea of just bending the cable and pushing it through. I thought of putting it through a galv round conduit terminal box but the only problem I see is where to take the earth from the screen...

    Clamp meter.

I've had a look online and a few wholesalers around where i live and found loads to choose from. The budget isn't as important as how good it is. I know you pay for what you get these days. The one i found I liked was Kewtech KT200 from Screwfix at £54 Any good?
