    Broken clay drain

Thanks for the help. So cut before the Y and then put the connector on, then plastic back to the soil pipe. Seems straightforward, is an angle grinder the best way to cut the existing clay pipe? What’s the best way to connect to the cast iron soil pipe?

    Broken clay drain

is there a way to temporary make this water tight? It will be replaced in a few months as part of an extension project. Previous owners had it sitting on some bricks to hold it up, just found it under a concrete shed base.

    Scaffold width?

Hi, We are likely to face issues with access to neighbours land for an extension which needs to be rendered, we are looking at now moving back to leave enough room for scaffold rather than go down this road only to be prevented. Whats is the minimum width required from the boundary to the wall...

    Sewage problem

Scottish water came and determined it was a private drain and the blockage was on my part. They tried with rods free of charge which was nice, but did not have a jet with them and didn't seem to know about this service which I had been told about on the phone so i had to get someone else. The...

    Sewage problem

thanks for your help. I've spoken with Scottish Water and they are going to come out and determine responsibility and if its found to be my problem they also offer a fixed fee unblocking service. I guess the info they provide will come in handy for the extension! Thanks again

How would i find out if its shared or not? are there any obvious signs? At the moment I have no idea if it goes straight from my house or whether they are all linked.

    Sewage problem

Thanks, fortunately we will be building an extension so all of this pipework will be replaced this summer as part of that project. Is there always a manhole cover in someones garden within a few doors or are there sometimes none?

    Sewage problem

Just popped into the garden to confirm some dimensions and found we have sewage pouring out onto the patio. Apologies for the not so pretty images. Trust me its much worse that what i am showing, i reckon we've got a few weeks of "waste" in the garden. We have two down pipes, one for toilet and...

    Hidden gutter on garage?

I should have said, its currently a lean-to asbestos (probably) roof attached to the gable of house. My intention is to keep it that way but replace the asbestos with tile or slate to match house. It's also single skin brickwork. Capture1 by Shaunferry86 posted 8 Jan 2019 at 11:52 AM

    Hidden gutter on garage?

Our garage gutters overhang the boundary line at the moment, we just moved in and the garage has been there for a very long time, probably 30+ years. It needs a new roof and i was thinking of removing this gutter and would like to avoid having any overhang. Its right outside the neighbours...

Maybe if we just knock that wall down.

Fantastic, I'm about to start a 5m x 4m two storey project which is very similar, still deciding between brick and block, timber frame or sips. Can I ask where you got the sliding door from/what brand it is and if you're happy with it? Does it feel cold when you are close to it? Also, how...

    Insulate sloping ceilings

Thanks for the replies. So I could batten to leave a gap and put as thick as possible insulation between rafters then insulated plasterboard fixed to the rafters and skimmed. Would I put a vapour control membrane after the rafter insulation but before the insulated plasterboard? Thanks, Shaun
