How to solve dip in chipboard floor?

In the hallway there is one section of chipboard which has dipped slightly and it can be felt when you walk over it. The chipboard isn't damaged and seems as strong as the rest. What do you think has caused it and how can I level it out [levelling compound on chipboard??]- I'm hoping not to...

How to plumb in the tap on a sink.

I know about the connections as I've used them before but I mean where the pipe needs to fit up into the base of the tap - into the threaded bit.... hard to explain I wish I could draw it!

Ok to put kitchen cupboard around a conventional boiler?

I have a conventional [not combi] wall hung boiler here and wondering if I could hide it with a kitchen cupboard as it isn't that pretty. Is it ok as long as I don't encase the underneath of it? ie. just put sides and the door front on it? Are there any clearances needed at the side? thanks.....

    Especially crass TV adverts

Picture loans ads are annoying with the brainless wives and the smug men in it [incidentally paying £42k over 18months for borrowing £25 isn't the cleverest thing to do!]..... and that one with vacant women talking about toilet tissue drives me insane.....

How to get pilot light back??

Can't see anything when I try to spark the ignition - the boiler just has Ideal W printed on it [no paperwork with it needless to say]. The gas button has an arrow on it to show it needs to turn to the right - but I cant get it to light - and I feel stupid that i turned the thing off in the...

How to get pilot light back??

It is a wall hung model - and I hope I won't have to call a plumber out :( The pilot light wasn't on when I moved in as the place had been empty for a while and my son must have turned it on while I was unpacking - but he's away at the moment.....

How to get pilot light back??

Hi - I turned off the pilot light after someone warned me that the gas it uses would give me a bill when I don't need the heating during the summer, nor hot water. And I am on a very low income. I know for a fact I've saved nearly £20 - not much to some but 20 quid to go towards something...

Anyone bought B+Q carpet off the roll? Quality?

A new store near me has carpet on a roll and it seems pretty good value to me eg. 100% wool hessian back berber for £7.98 per m2.... Is it a bargain really? the quality looked ok to me but hard to say when another comparable carpet isn't side by side. Has anyone bought their carpet this...

How to get pilot light back??

I feel a bit daft, but I turned off the pilot light on my Ideal conventional boiler [not a combi] in April - and now I can't get the pilot light to ignite? What am I doing wrong?- i hold down the gas button and press the ignition button - nothing. Please bear with me I only moved here...

Best way to put pine T+G onto chipboard floor?

I have the chance of some reasonable pine floorboards and was wondering how to lay them - the flooring here is 22mm chipboard. Is it best to use underlay and float the floor - Or to nail or screw down onto the chipboard? Should I use secret nailing - and do they move in time? Or use...

Draining the hot water pipes: plumbing in sink

When I plumb in the new kitchen sink I am expecting that after I turn off the water at the stop tap the water in the 'hot' pipes will take ages to run off [because of what is in the immersion heater] - am I right? I haven't had a conventional boiler system before......

Plaster question - prior to tiling

We have removed the tiles from kitchen walls - in many places the finishing layer of plaster came off with them and the walls need skimming. The plaster that is remaining is quite soft though - it's stuck to the walls ok but can be easily dug into with a screwdriver. Will it be ok to skim over...

Changing from standard system to combi-what does it entail?

What sort of disruption can I expect when I get a standard boiler replaced with a combi-boiler - but positioning it in the same place [an outside kitchen wall]? I dont need it yet but maybe it should all be done before a new kitchen floor is laid? [or should I get it repositioned in the airing...

More floor trouble - raised joist

I am doing up a bungalow and the next job is installing a new kitchen. Due to a washing machine leak in the chipboard flooring [ceramic tiles were laid on top of it which I am removing] the flooring is uneven and the chipboard is 'wavy' but not too bad considering - on closer inspection it...

Taking up original chipboard flooring - how easy?

The chipboard flooring in my kitchen isn't great in the area that was and will be, under the washing machine. I am thinking of putting 18-19mm tongue and groove floorboards in this room but the finished floor level will be higher than the floor level of the hallway outside....so how easy would...
