Really? Thanks for that constructive comment. I had no idea a Shovel could be used to find out such things. You really are a star. Thanks again for that useful advice. freddymercurystwin, thanks for the advice. I've actually gone round and asked some Neighbours who have had extensions...

laying ceramic tiles on 12" x 12" vinyl tiles

Richard, Appologies if I took that the wrong way. I know all the M40 specs, BS Standards and manufactuers recommendations. However, we all know that theres are not always stuck to on sites, and even more so on refurbs. How long do you wait for a plastered wall to dry out before you tile...

    Finding out existing foundations

Hi all. Is there a way to find out what existing foundations we have on our home other than digging up and looking? Our house is 25 years old and were looking to extend, single storey, but living in a clay area the foundations might be pile and beam and the local Building Control have...

    Laying Travertine tiles

4 & 5mm joints on large format tiles on a high spec floor???? Not something I would recommend nor would my clients accept. 2-3mm on floor is fine.

    advice needed

Tiles should be solid bedded, not dot & dabbed. M40 specification. As for the paint it should all be removed. You can "get away" with removing as much as you can and priming the walls before tiling, but no manufacturer would recommend it or guarantee it. Then again, manufacturers...

    Marmox Sound Reduction Board

Can't comment on the product you have mentioned, but I have installed and tiled similar to this a few years ago: http://www.insulationexpress.co.uk/Acoustic-Insulation/Karmafloor-Acoustic-Insulation-Mat.htm Stick it down with F3 floor adhesive then use flexible adhesive and grout. With...

    Tiling a balcony

It is possible but without knowing whats underneath the existing covering cannot say 100%. There are many tiles suitable for outside balconies and the same for adhesives and grouts. You would also have to take into account any drainage considerations. the balconies I have tiled on new build...

laying ceramic tiles on 12" x 12" vinyl tiles

I wouldent call tiling over tiles a bodge. It happens sometimes on refurbs. Tiling onto quarry tiles should not be a problem either. I wouldent recommend going directly onto vinyl tiles though.

    Waste Size Question

Hi all, Im trying to re-plumb a waste for my dads new sink, but the origional waste pipework seems to be a non-standard size. Its bigger than 32mm but smaller than 40mm. Can anyone shed any light as to what size it is, and how I can connect a 32mm pipe to it? Memory tells me its an...

GCol, ok, i've been reading some of the posts from you and your BF JFoss, and tbh, both of you talk crap. I'll just tell you where im at. If anyone done a sticky and advised me to only use BAL adhesives, and white star a bath area, id be the one running a mile. Or shall I put it another...

    Tiling onto emulsion

Westcliff, What im advising regarding the scoring and priming of the paint isnt technically correct, im jsut saying i've seen it done 100's of times and never seen tiles fall off. The scoring and PVA was for a bit of a safety margin. On site, on the occasions that it happens, which is...

    Accounting

interesting. There was a documentary on HMRC a few years ago, and it was admitted from the clueless ****ers themselves that they go after businesses who can't afford decent accountants. The first sign of a decent accountant fighing the ****ers and they go off after someone else. Also, I...
