    Strange white/blue wire that’s disintegrating

Yes, definitely white. Going to get an electrician out to check it out - I don’t like messing with electrical stuff.

    Strange white/blue wire that’s disintegrating

Morning, Have you experts seen anything like this before? It’s a white sheathed wire, with blue and white wires inside it. Have been doing more renovations (UK) and found this running under the cellar, from one side to the other. I don’t have a clue where it comes from or where it goes...

    Door rubbing after painting…

HALP! Evening fellow disaster magnets, here is my latest conundrum, locksmith coming out this week to fit new locks, so I’m now in full on panic mode. Old Victorian door renovation, lead paint, weeks of detail stripping and chemical burns, sanding, priming, painting, getting paint off the old...

Replacing Night Latch with a BS standard one with the rectangular shaped cylinder

That’s great, thank you. I’ll get my local locksmiths to install one of the BS Standard ones :)

Replacing Night Latch with a BS standard one with the rectangular shaped cylinder

Not a euro cylinder, don’t think you get those on a night latch? You know, the typical round Yale cylinder lock. Very common, you will know it when you see it. However they are not BS standard, the BS standard night latches appear to have a more rectangular cylinder. Like here...

Replacing Night Latch with a BS standard one with the rectangular shaped cylinder

Hi All, Renovating the front door, it’s a nice sturdy wooden door, it has a BS 5 Lever Mortise, and what could only be described as a 1960s Yale night latch. To be fair, both have been good locks. I’m going to replace the night latch, was just going to go for a non insurance approved one, as...

Filling around light switch - old Victorian house

It’s ok, that’s not the finished face. It’s more filling up to the box, as I didn’t want to go over the cables, but looks like that’s what gets done by a plasterer anyway :)

Filling around light switch - old Victorian house

Morning, in my never ending quest to renovate this old Victorian house, that surprises me with new and interesting issues at every turn ( like wires dangling around inside lath and plaster walls…..) Am trying to think through something simple….. And failing……. I really don’t want to plaster...

3 gang light switch as three separate lights

:) it’s coming off tomorrow, i was just being pro-active in working out how easy it will be with the confusing mess on the back of the new switch. Have ordered new multimeter as old one not working, so I’ll need to wait till that gets delivered tomorrow to test the switch, but I’ll post the...

3 gang light switch as three separate lights

3 gang light switch as three separate lights

Ta! So guessing my guess is right, the way they are segmented by lines on the back, shows the switches? So the middle switch has com and 1 at the top?

3 gang light switch as three separate lights

Ok, am scratching my head. Don’t want to call an electrician to change a light switch, as that would be embarrassing….. I have a three gang switch, all controlling three individual lights. Simple on/off for each one, no complexity with other switches. I want to change to plastic switch, so...

    Victorian House, subsistence?

That’s it in the context of the whole, inside of the big window still has a wooden surround, no cracks visible on inside of house (except the usual you would expect for a “vintage” house. Just realised how dirty the bricks look as well :( I think I need to find a “how to clean brick” forum...
