Plasterboard directly on to existing wall without battening?

Thanks for all your comments. Roughcaster>> that's great, thanks. morrik27>> ?? you have lost me, I don't have any external corners so I don't see the relevance, it is just a normal rectangular room!! joe-90>> I can see how it sounds ridiculous, but, the current walls are not very good...

Plasterboard directly on to existing wall without battening?

Roughcaster, that's great news. It will certainly get rid of the trouble I envisaged if this couldn't be done. I will use one of your recommended adhesives plus screws, as these are bathroom walls that I will be tiling, so I need to ensure the boards don't come loose - I can use very long screws...

Plasterboard directly on to existing wall without battening?

Hi, can anyone please tell me if it is possible to plasterboard directly over existing plaster walls? I don't want to lose the extra space required for battening, and I cannot remove the existing plaster for dot and dab fixing, so I wondered if it was possible to fix the plasterboard by screwing...

Turn Central Heating on in One Room Only

Hi Tony, I always thought electric heaters were worse for the environment and were as costly both in terms of money and carbon footprint as having a kettle turned on all day. I could be totally wrong about that. Thanks Lianne

Turn Central Heating on in One Room Only

Hi Simon, Sounds ideal. What are the approximate costs for such a system? I have a five bed bungalow and probably require 4 zones. 1. Living area 2. Bedrooms 3. Games room 4. Study / office Lianne

Turn Central Heating on in One Room Only

Hi, I would like to know if there is a way to turn the central heating on in one room only? I have a condensing boiler with a wireless controller and TRV's on all radiators (bar one). I would love to be able to turn the heating on in a single room, it seems so wasteful to have all the...

Move light and shower switches to outside bathroom

This seems to be the only area I have trouble - everything else my word is 'law' so to speak. I think they are so busy rushing that they are still walking as they pull the cord - hence it swings back and hits the tiles!! So this is the best way to ensure 100% that it can't happen again!!

Move light and shower switches to outside bathroom

ColJack>> I am assuming I do exactly the same for the shower switch, is that correct? All seems a little extreme I know!! The standard white ends wouldn't cause this problem, but, they don't look so great - although, better than chipped tiles!! The ones I have are (obviously very heavy)...

Move light and shower switches to outside bathroom

I want to move the standard pull switches for my shower and bathroom light, to a double socket outside the bathroom. The main reason for this is my little one keeps swinging them and chipping the tiles!! We are re-tiling the bathroom and I don't want the new tiles chipping. Any advice on how...

Plasterboard over existing walls in bathroom

The only reason I thought I should screw as well was due to tile weight, I know standard plaster can only handle approx 20Kg m2 and I thought if I used long screws they would go into the breeze for extra strength. What type of plasterboard / fixing adhesive did you use? Any advice is much...

Plasterboard over existing walls in bathroom

The existing walls are plaster on breeze block; the tiles I have are large 60x30cm and fairly heavy so I if possible I was going to 'dab' and screw the boards in place. Thanks. By the way Hi to your little friend!!
