    Simple question....

Swap the two good tube over with the bad ones and see if the problem follows the tubes or stays in the same place. If the problem moves with the tubes replace faulty tubes, if the problem stays in the same place check the starters.

6mm cable required because it needs to be buried, there's no structure to support the cable run from one end of the garden to the other. Thanks for pointing out the isolation in the shed, great way to bring in the 4mm. :) I might just go for the emergency lighting anyway as I've never...

    Discrimination

Just thought of another way to save expense and concern about diversity and that would be to (almost) do away with it altogether. If I were to take a 32a RCD protected MCB from the house CU, run 6mm SWA to the shed, then just run the sockets in 6mm (it's a small shed, three 2g and one 1g)...

    Discrimination

Just so I'm 100% sure we're on the same wave length, you're talking about one of these bad boys? http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/WY108M.html?source=adwords&kw=&gclid=CMyZ65jsg70CFWvkwgod26cAWA We're then talking 16mm for 60a fuse or 25mm for 80a. This is starting to top reach £400...

    Discrimination

Hi John. That's my understanding of discrimination too. I guess all I'm asking is my installation design ok with regards to discrimination of the MCBs or have I made a fundamental error? Cheers, Chris.

    Discrimination

Hi guys. I've not had to look at discrimination since college so could do with a little refresher. The job is to provide power to a domestic shed (30m away from CU) supplying a 32a ring (possible mig welding, milling machine etc..) and a 6a lighting circuit, all protected by an RCD. My...

Fire Brigade key for block of flats fuse board?

I'm a retained fire fighter for 6 years now. We have a selection of keys for various events (lift rescues, duel carriageway escape gates, dry risers etc..) but I've never noticed a key for what your describing. If we do come across a lock that we haven't got the correct key for then we use our...

I haven't got my book on me but off the top of my head those times don't look like corrected values?

External main protective bonding conductor size

Hi guys Just to double check that if a MPBC is to be surface mounted external to the property we do not have to increase the CSA size? I've been asked to change a consumer unit and there is currently no MPBCs. The gas meter (external) is about 3 meters away from the wall where the CU can...

    Changing CU during thunderstorm

Stick with me here guys... So yesterday I changed an old rewirable CU for a nice duel RCD protected system. This morning I return to the property to be greeted by the very excited owners telling me that there was a big explosion last night and all the power went off (I could have crushed a...

Extending lighting circuit with no earth

Hi guys What are the rules when extending a lighting circuit with no CPC? I assume it makes no difference to our work needing to be protected with CPC but it doesn't make sense to run it back to the CU and leave the existing unprotected. A customer has asked me to add a new light fitting...

    Existing cooker control unit

After looking at the building regs again this morning you absolutely right in saying that the don't "say" a minimum distance but just imply one (unlike sockets). Many thanks again to each and every one of you, I always leave this forum with more knowledge that I started with. Chris.

    Existing cooker control unit

Hi guys I just need to reassure myself that it is not our responsibility to relocate existing an cooker control unit to the prescribed safe distance when altering the position of the cooker connection unit? Obviously the customer should be made aware that it's not in the current prescribed...

    Narrow consumer unit

Hi guys. I've got a CU change to do but the max width available, without undertaking a lot of work, is 280mm or 11". So do any of you know of a dual RCD CU that will fit in this gap as I can't find one? Failing this I think a fully loaded 8 way RCBO unit should go. Having not used a fully...

    IPx4 flex connection plate

Thanks for your input. I wouldn't go for the first idea but you could be onto an idea for a new product with the second (a blanking plate with a flex inlet point).

    IPx4 flex connection plate

Hi guys. I've an extractor fan to fit in zone 1 of a bathroom. I want to fit the fan without having to chase the wall out to run cables in behind the fan. I can get the cable through the bedrooms cupboard to the wall right next to the fan (at 90deg), I was then hoping to fit a connection unit...
