Hi guys

What are the rules when extending a lighting circuit with no CPC? I assume it makes no difference to our work needing to be protected with CPC but it doesn't make sense to run it back to the CU and leave the existing unprotected.

A customer has asked me to add a new light fitting and switch to a room they want to create by splitting the double bed room into two singles. I've recommended a rewire and had to issue Dangerous Situation Report for the class 1 fittings I noticed (not sure I'll be invited back again).

Sorry about the crappy question but I'm struggling to see any other satisfactory option other than a rewire.

Cheers,
Chris.

You have done the right thing - if there is no CPC, it cannot be extended.

No CPC usually means wiring from 50+ years ago, so it should have all been rewired years ago anyway.
