ceramic tiles on concrete floor - removing one!

hi one of the 45cm square tiles in the kitchen has been cracked. I have a spare but obviously need to get it up (wahey) first. What's the best/easiest way to do this. Should I drill around the edge of the tiles to come up - so as not smash the neighbours - and then just go at it slowly with a...

Fire regs and staircases - HELP

you don't always need an alternate form of escape. We've just had our loft approved, and we don't have an escape window. We do however have stairs above the stairs we already had, and it's a sealed tube (in effect) from the loft to the front door. Basically there is a route from top to bottom...

    Plaster Tape

I think I understand that Nestor... Thanks for your replies. As the tape in question is only about 20 cm long ( in two places) i may try removing it and seeing what happens.

    Plaster Tape

thanks! but is there an easier method? Like just removing it and replacing with a thin skim of polyfilla or something. Is the tape 100% necessary? madge

    Plaster Tape

Morning In our newish house (3 years) the plaster tape in the corner is coming away from the walls in places. Obviously it's dried and hard and won't easily go back against the wall, so it's not a case of painting over the top and sticking it down. Is there anything I can do apart from...

    Painting new plaster

thanks both - I'm sorry I didn't scroll down further before posting. I did after though and thought 'oops' Is the thinning of the paint essential - or does it just make the paint go further. It's not the biggest room in the world so I don't mind using full on paint if it gets a better result.

    Painting new plaster

Hi we're having a loft conversion done at the moment and to help speed things up/cut down costs we're doing the final painting ourselves. How long should we leave the plaster to dry till we paint over it? And do we need primer - or is just normal paint okay? madge

    Loft conversion and escape velux

Nothing has changed with the building regs in the recent couple of months has it? We're now just about to go ahead with the Conversion and I'm getting nervous. Even though i've got the chap at the council (both in building regs and planning) to say it's okay....until i get final sign off I...

    sunpipe/solatube

Hi Does anyone know which is best - sunpipes or solatubes? We need to install one, and obviously would prefer the best. They both seem similar in price and spec, and each says it's the best in it's class etc etc, but from an impartial view - which is best? Thanks

    Young's Loft Conversions

Morning has anyone used Young's Loft Conversions in the Reading area [for a loft conversion, natch]. If so are they any good, and if not, who did you used? Ta

    Cabel C195/53 Fridge Freezer

Would it get worse do you reckon or is okay to keep it going for a while? It's still awfully cold inside the fridge (about 4.5c) and apart from frosting up and being always on there's nothing wrong with it. pete

    Cabel C195/53 Fridge Freezer

oh what a pain. We've only just replaced the washing machine. All happens at once doesn't it. Thankyou again though.

    Cabel C195/53 Fridge Freezer

the plate at the back does seem to mostly frost up on one side (although given time it will freeze both sides!). Does this mean then the fridge is lacking in refrigerant? Nothing actually freezes in the fridge itself though - just the back wall. It's already been re gassed once (and only...

    Cabel C195/53 Fridge Freezer

Hi We've got an inbuilt Cabel C195/53 Fridge Freezer and the fridge doesn't seem to defrost by itself. If I turn it off quickly at the thermostat it does tick over by itself for about 10 minutes before firing up the motor again, but otherwise the motor is always on. It doesn't go off every...

    weird bits of metal

    weird bits of metal

Hi I'm trying to bolt a spring over gate, and I know I need M4x40mm bolts, but what I also need is some metal plates on the other side that I can fix the bolts to. Anyone got an idea what they're called (so I can look them up on Screwfix) or where I can get them from? It would basically be...

    Spring - cast iron gate

I got a B&Q gate spring, and i've fixed it on with zip ties for the time being (lazy i know) but it doesn't shut the gate. Obviously this a bit of a flaw, but it does come with a tensioning rod and couple of little bits of metal - anyone got any idea how to use them, as the helpful people at B&Q...
