What could protect against kettle fault?

The fault here lies with the kettle, or more the fact that it had no water in it The circuits were only doing what they are designed for, eg to carry the 13 or so amps to the 3kw kettle, and boil the water, it will happily run at higher currents all day long if it was required to do so, so no...

    Question about emergency lighting circuits

They are integral with the standard units, every 4th one has the extra unswitched live to an emergency unit to charge the batteries, and activate if power fails, there is no test facility, other than switching the circuit off at the breaker to see if they remain on

    Question about emergency lighting circuits

Hi not really a DIY question, but have recently had a PIR done where I work and the tester has picked up on us having more than one circuit in a MCB, quoting ref 314.4 as the non compliant The actual circuit is a lighting ciruit which has intermittent (one in every 4)maintained emergency...

Warmup time of CFL GU10's... what about LEDs?

I just fitted these in my bathroom, and the start up is quite slow, the other thing is the light output is a dreadfull colour, so I changed the single spot above the shower for a 50w halogen, so I now get instant brightness and the warmth of the halogen colour has removed the ghastly butchers...

    Sticking a mirror onto tiles

Is it OK to use normal silicone to stick a mirror onto a tiled surface, or is there a good reason I should use the Mirror Mate adhesive which is 3x the price? Does silicone attack the mirror rear surface or something? Thankyou

    Insulation in a false ceiling?

150mm of standard loft insulation in the loft above the old ceiling I'm guessing the logical answer will be yes, if just to preserve the heating in the bathroom from leaking away into the void?

    Does Part P Work

This is the situation I often get. I work as an electician in a commercial environment, and often get colleagues ask me to do work on their properties, usually because they have been quoted high prices from domestic sparks for relatively small jobs (I'm not knocking this BTW, I realise what is...

    Socket testing.

I would suspect a L-N reverse here, you will need to check out the polarity at your CU first, if that is OK then you need to investigate the circuits, best check em all now you have found one dodgy one you should be getting L-N 230v L-E 230v N-E 0v
