Has my boiler been installed correctly?

OK. Assumming, that the auto by-pass is moved to the correct place (after the pump) is it normal on an open vent system that that will come into use every time it's in pump-overrun mode? I was expecting the pump overrun to circulate water around the radiators rather than through the bypass...

Has my boiler been installed correctly?

Hi, I had a new boiler fitted today (Vaillant, heat only, open vent, 2 x two port valves) to replace an ageing boiler which had a couple of issues. It has been installed by a Vaillant accredited, Gas Safe registered installer. However I'm not sure it's been installed correctly for two...

Help! Clicking noise from Ideal Classic boiler (+ video)

Hi people.. I have a problem with an Ideal Classic FF270 boiler. It fires up fine but while burning it will randomly start clicking from the gas valve/solenoid area once every few minutes and making a horrible mechanical clicking noise. Seems to me the solenoid might have gone (faulty coil?)...

Gurgling noise coming from heating/water system

I'm astounded by the rudeness of your answer. I will ask elsewhere. How am I to magically know what information you need?

Gurgling noise coming from heating/water system

Hi, I've recently noticed that in the mornings at about 6am, there can be gurgling sound which comes from the heating system after I hear the pump come on. It sounds a bit like air in the system, but if I bleed the radiators, no air ever comes out - just a healthy flow of water. What could...

Ideal FF240 "clicking" noise for pilot

I feel that's a rather mean response. Why would I be to blame for someone else's unscrupulous business tactics? How was I to know they would do that? I had never used them before. It's very difficult to find reliable tradesmen I find.

Ideal FF240 "clicking" noise for pilot

...and it would seem you did not read the text in the paragraph you quoted. Which is odd.

Ideal FF240 "clicking" noise for pilot

There are no regulations covering work on your own boiler. The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, cover professional workers only. If you are working on your own boiler in your own house, you are not subject to those regulations. The notable exception is if you're a landlord...

Ideal FF240 "clicking" noise for pilot

I just bought it from eBay. It was brand new and boxed so seemed OK to me. I take your point and I'll have to find a pro... Just very nervous after my prior bad experiences :( I've yet to find a boiler engineer who doesn't blatantly lie - hence trying to repair things myself. There was no...

Ideal FF240 "clicking" noise for pilot

Did you ever find the cause of your problem? I've got the exact same thing on the same boiler. I've also recently replaced the fan assembly a couple of months ago but now I've got the clicking problem you describe. Usually it fires up OK but then sometimes the flames go out for a couple of...

Heating pump not turning off + weird noise/vibration

I have no thermostatic valves, no overrun stat and no bypass, so hopefully that's a valid install :)

Heating pump not turning off + weird noise/vibration

I thought you only needed a bypass if you have a pump overrun thermistor (which mine doesn't)? From what I gathered on my phone call to ACL Drayton, if the valves are off, the pump should be off (on my system) and therefore a bypass wasn't necessary? Also wouldn't that be an installation...

Heating pump not turning off + weird noise/vibration

I was about to ask for recommendations for replacement parts- thanks :) Are Honeywell more reliable then? The only thing I'm worried about if changing brand is different spacing of the connectors. The pipework is VERY tight and what I think is the faulty valve has a 90 deg bend in the pipe...

Heating pump not turning off + weird noise/vibration

I decided to give the valve manufacturer (ACL) a call and ask their advice. He's suggested I do the (obvious) test of measuring the continuity across each micro-switch after they've been unwired (with valve closed) to make sure that the switch isn't stuck closed. So I'll start with that I guess!

Heating pump not turning off + weird noise/vibration

Hi, I need some help! Recently, I've been hearing an occasional loud vibrating noise coming from the radiators/pipework around the airing cupboard which lasts for just a second or so. It sounds almost like pipe hammer but doesn't last very long and makes the radiators in the house all...

Equilibrium valves for toilet cisterns - reliablity?

Yeah but my brand new brass ball valve takes about 10 minute to stop dripping. It's really irritating! :) The cheap fix is to direct the water output into a sloping tube to catch and silence the drips, but hardly a nice solution. Some valves have a sleeve the water runs down to keep it quiet...

Equilibrium valves for toilet cisterns - reliablity?

Hi all, I've noticed that it's getting harder to find normal ball valves for toilet cisterns in DIY shops etc.. Everyone seems to be moving towards "equilibrium valves" which just have a small blue 'pot' rather than a proper ball float. Does anyone have any experience of the...

    Neutral to Earth resistance question

A high voltage could exist on a disconnected cable which simply runs in parallel with a live cable for a long run. In this case, it will have a voltage applied to the cable through inductance. A volt meter as a very high resistance (to read correctly, it would have to be infinite, but obviously...

    Neutral to Earth resistance question

What are the alternatives? A multimeter doesn't seem any good either as it can show 230V when there is no power on the wire (too sensitive).

    Neutral to Earth resistance question

OK I've sussed it. I dug the wall out a bit more and found that the incoming cable actually bends off sharply to one side. That puts it directly behind the rawl plug! Behind the hole where the rawl plug used to be, I can see a small hole in the cable! So I must have used a slightly longer...
