    Radiator cleaning

Shouldn't need any specific tools, adjustable spanner to disconnect the valves from the rads, and a pair of pliers to ensure the valves are firmly shut off. If the rads are as old as you say though, there's a chance the valves won't properly shut off though, so you may need to drain the system...

    Cold bedroom...

Shutting your curtains at dusk is recommended for reducing heat loss, therefore if the curtains are blocking the rad, the heat will be on the wrong side of the curtains! Cheapest solution - either tuck the curtains behind the radiator when closed, or have them shortened if they are much too...

    A few cold rads

Try turning all the rads off, then turn 1 non working one on, until it starts working. Repeat for the other rads. Could be an air lock (especially if you have drained the system recently, or blocked pipes (especially if you have microbore pipework). Don't recommend hitting anything with a hammer...

    Very Noisy Heating Pipes

Bit of an extreme way to warm them, but hey, winter's on it's way!

    Lever taps stiff to operate

Finally got round to sorting this. When I removed the cartridges, I found that they worked perfectly. So I carefully dismantled the top ball joint, cleaned and packed with the grease, reassembled the whole thing, but didn't fully tighten the nut/ring that holds the cartridge in place. The taps...

Poor flow from new kitchen taps

Know what you mean, how on earth are DIYers are meant to know what they need :?: At least the tap we have at the moment only cost a fraction of that one though... Been looking on 'tinternet with the missus. We like the look of this tap...

Poor flow from new kitchen taps

Thought that might be the problem, although it is similar to the one I had in my old house, which worked perfectly. Mind you, these were a lot cheaper! Thanks

Poor flow from new kitchen taps

Hi there, I recently fitted some new taps in my kitchen - lever type monobloc, with flexible connectors. Problem is that the flow is unsatisfactory. There was nothing on the box to say what the minimum pressure was, and I have a gravity system, with about a 3m head. Is there anything I can do...

    LED bulb replacement for halogen

Hi, Has anyone tried these LED bulbs? I have a GU10 halogen downlighter in my porch, but never leave it on for long periods (i.e. overnight) due to the potential fire risk of these bulbs. I've been considering changing for LED, but not sure it it will give sufficient light. Any...

    Bleeding Key.... Broke Nut

Probably easier just to replace the whole bleed valve

    Pump does not stop running

On the pcb in the valve there should be a micro switch. Switch off the mains to the whole system, remove the cover to the valve, locate the switch and press it until you hear it click. Then replace the cover and power up again and see if the pump is now silent (provided that no heat is being...

    Bathroom wall coverings...

Try painting with a couple of coats of ordinary emulsion watered down enough to make application easy enough. Then a couple of coats of proper bathroom paint (I prefer Crown). I would suggest at least part tiling the walls though. Water splashes can cause marks on emulsion, and it will obviously...

I really dont think this is quite what I expected....

Just come across this thread. How on earth can a company the size of BG allow such a **** up to happen in the first place? I live near Norwich and had a quote from BG for a new system about 6 months ago to replace our knackered back boiler (the casing had almost completely rusted away on top)...

    Lever taps stiff to operate

It's a lever mixer, that's all I know! 1/4 turn, don't know if it's ceramic disc or not. Still worth trying the grease?

    Very Noisy Heating Pipes

Can you identify whereabouts the noise is coming from? Have you had any TRVs fitted to any other radiators? We bought a new house about 8 years ago, and when we first turned on the heating, we had a noise like a 2 stroke moped coming from the lounge rad - the TRV had the flow in the wrong...

    best heating for conservatory

Word of advice from the wise. Don't even think about electric underfloor heating. We had a new conservatory built at our last house, and looked at the various options on heating. Considered electric oil filled wall mounted rads, then decided on electric ufh, due to having a tiled floor. The next...

    Lever taps stiff to operate

Hi there, new to the forum and would like some advice on the following problem please: I have a lever tap on the bathroom sink and also on the bath. Both are quite stiff to operate, and the one on the sink also makes a noise when you operate it. It sounds a bit like an old door with hinges that...
