You have a point but some of the pipes throughout the house have been cut / chunks removed at some point. Someone would have to spend time and money replumbing / repairing them.
I'd have to have it checked by a CORGI engineer I guess.
US electrics are different to UK although it may be possible to shed some light (sorry) on the matter if you could give a clearer description. A picture perhaps?
My house is no longer on gas but it still has a gas pipe with a leaver on it (valve?) sticking up through the floor. Can it be safely removed? I'm pretty sure the gas is turned off outside the house.
The ring mains has at some point been rewired. There was only one socket that had old cable to it. Cable had no earth but there was an earth wire in the socket. I haven't located where it goes yet but I have a sneaky suspicion that it literally goes to the ground because it goes down the door...
I wired the neutrals from an RCD protected ring circuit in my house to the Non-RCD neutral block by mistake (silly mistake) and the RCD tripped what ever I plugged on. Although The first time I switched it on it didn't. hmm. Make sure your neutrals are wired to the correct block.
To all you guys that have no earth wire in your lighting: If the cable is black or grey rubber sheathed and not PVC sheathed then I seriously recommend getting it looked at.
I've just rewired my lights that were like that and when I was removing the old cable some of the insulation just...
I've already got too far in. The course is paid for and I've started it. Here are the key topics as listed on their website and in my study plan:
DC Principles
Electrochemistry
Electromagnetism and Electrostatics
AC Circuit Theory
DC Generators and Motors
Principles of Electronics
AC...
ICS is International Correspondence Schools (I think). It's that advert you see on the tele. She say's about PC repairs, fitness instructor, bookkeeping..etc.
At the end you get an ICS diploma in electrical engineering. I think it's a recognized diploma.
I don't want to steel posts but just wanna say that I'm 24 (nearly 25) and I've just got into electrical work. I think it's great. I am in the process of re-wiring my home and I'm really enjoying it.
I have done the upstairs lighting so far. Considering that most of the house is still on...
This isn't a project as such (re-wiring my home is though) but I just thought I'd share it with you. Has anyone else done this course or is doing it?
I gotta say that it does seem to have thrown me in at the deep end a bit and some of it is going a bit over my head. I am on the first module...
I re-wired the switch to one cable into L1 and the other into L2 and it now works.
Strange how the switch indicates otherwise. I don't have the diagram for that particular switch and I can't remember what it said.
Cheers for your help spark. :)
The fan heater is 2000W and the panel heater / towel rail is 260W. 2260W in total.
1.)Can I not connect each fcu to a junction box on the same circuit?
2.)If so is a 16amp mcb sufficient?
Also, when working on a specific circuit, remove the fuse or mcb to that circuit so that if the mains get's switched on by mistake then that circuit will still be isolated.
On my intermediate switch the L1 and L2 marks are at the side and not top and bottom. So the Blue and Yellow wires from the first switch are on one side and the Blue and Yellow wires from the second switch are on the other side. I know that they are shown top and bottom like your picture in all...
