    Induction Hob near window

Hi. Thanks for that but unfortunately none of the MIs mention windows. I was thinking to treat the window sill as if it was a combustible cupboard for the purposes of the instructions?

    Induction Hob near window

Hello All Current plan for kitchen has closest edge of induction hob about 50mm away from the window. Window currently has wooden sill and we'd plan to put (probably combustible) blinds covering the window. Some of the manufacturer installation instructions state its ok to have a tall cupboard...

one or two screws on t+g joint

Thanks J&K - I've read a lot of your posts and like them. I've already started and am about half way through now - did use 35 screws per board, D4 glue at the joinsts and pinkgrip on the joists. Seems pretty solid so far but tends to be gaps of around up to 1mm (maybe 2mm worse case?) at the...

one or two screws on t+g joint

Thanks for that. Just to check I've got it right. You said to use 2 or 3 screws between the corners. So if I used 3 then that would be 5 in total along that joist. So for a 2400mmx600mm board with joists at 400mm centres, I'd be crossing 7 joists so I would be using 35 screws per full board...

one or two screws on t+g joint

Hello All Maybe this is a silly or obvious question to some but its not to me. Fitting new t+g chipboard flooring with the 600mm edges finishing on a joist. If I'm say going to use 3 screws per joist, should I double that to 6 at the edge so that I screw down both boards? Or is it enough to...

Bouncy floor - Can I use existing ceiling RSJ ?

Thanks for taking the time. I stupidly hadn't considered that. The rsj is a bit of a beast and sits on its own brick piers etc - what you say must be right. I didn't really notice bounciness but I seem to recall if I stamped in one corner of the room, tables on same or other joists might vibrate...

Bouncy floor - Can I use existing ceiling RSJ ?

Hello All I'm replacing the floor in a room above the garage and right now the joists are now exposed from above. Joists are 195x47 at 400mm spacings. It was installed in the late 80s early 90s. The span is around 5.3M which would appear to well exceed what is permitted. There is no sag but if...

Just 5 screws per t+g 22mm chipboard board?

That was one of the most informative answers I've had for a long time. Thank you very much.

Just 5 screws per t+g 22mm chipboard board?

Some folk on the internet talk about using up to 30 screws per board. (e.g. https://www.carpentry-tips-and-tricks.com/lay-chipboard-flooring.html) A major manufacturer seems to be saying use just 5 screws for boards not at the edge of the room...

Dishwasher dimensions impossible to find out ?

Hi All Planning for a new kitchen and want a couple of freestanding units. It is proving much harder than I thought to get the dimensions. Yes you can get the WxHxD but on a dishwasher for example there is often a small service gap at the back and bottom. Can't seem to find any dimesioned...

    Hanging Tiles butt brick wall

Yes I appreciated that Nige - hence my thanks. The corner in question is about as sheltered as can be. I went up there to check it during the recent flash rain and most of the tiles were dry and certainly the gap at the edge was bone dry. It had had no flashing for about 30 years and no...

    Hanging Tiles butt brick wall

Yes, because the first answer I got didn't really help me much so I did some more research elsewhere and got a better answer.

    Hanging Tiles butt brick wall

No DIYer is ever going to understand that "helpful" explanation. If you read this and want to see the answer watch this: And read Item number (36) in this pdf. https://www.dreadnought-tiles.co.uk/res/vertical%20tiling%20guide1.pdf

    Hanging Tiles butt brick wall

Outside, there is a 90 degree internal corner. Brick wall on one side and hanging tiles over stud wall on the other. I took the tiles off some time ago (planners like bats too much....) and now putting them back. My question is where the tiles meet the brick wall in the corner what is there to...

    15mm or 16mm pex ?

Hi I was just wondering if anyone knows why you would chose one size of plastic barrier pipe to the other? I'm planning on having UFH installed and was wondering what the advantages are of 16mm vs 15mm ?

And what is this material and can I paint or skim it?

Thanks a lot for that. Is it just cement render? How do they polish it so smooth ?

And what is this material and can I paint or skim it?

Just stripped wallpaper from early 90s decorated room. Underneath was paint which came off very easily. Underneath that is a mostly very sound, very smooth grey substrate/render. Its a sold either brick or block wall behind. Is this cement render? Its very smooth. Can I paint it directly and...

    Door threshold strip outside doorway?

Thanks alot for taking the time to reply foxhole. Just to confirm, by outside that would be the side of the door that the door opens out into? So in my diagram outside is the flooboarded area and inside is the tiles? The bar should ideally _not_ protrude into the outside as it does in my...

    Door threshold strip outside doorway?

Hello All I'm about to tile a new small room and am trying to figure out where to put the threshold and what kind to go for and also where the tiles will stop. Outside the room is polished floorboards. I hope the attached diagram makes it clearer. I bought this one but can change it if thats...
