New roof- tiles kicking around velux

Some kick is difficult to disguise especially when you consider that the Velux area where those tiles are landing is a wee bit higher than the surrounding battens. That said, you can mitigate the severity of the kick by getting creative with the angle grinder and it has to start with the...

Fakro Roof Lights & Low Pitch Flashing

Agreed noseall would prefer to use Velux myself, but they don't do a product that works on a 12 degree pitch roof other than ugly flat roof windows. The Fakro option is a standard centre pivot window, but the flashing kicks up the back of the window & thereby exceeding the minimum 15 degrees...

    "Untidy" extension roof appearance

Our extension has now been completed. However, I am not entirely happy with the way roof tiling is looking around the velux windows. The tiles are "kicking up", particularly around the velux window on the left. Apart from the aesthetic concerns, I am worried that this "untidy" appearance can...

    Velux Window Advice

If the roof has 19mm laths he should have used the same thickness laths to lath up around the velux. !9mm laths were the norm on older houses but 25mm are the minimum thickness you can use nowadays. 19mm laths are still available so he has no excuse.

    Sandtoff 20/20 tiles around velum

Can anyone help me ? My roofer has laid Sandtoff 20/20 tiles on my extension, which has a low pitch of 17.5 degrees, where the tiles marry up with the velux flashing kits the tiles are kicking up. My roofer can't explain why, apparently he's used correct flashing kit for low pitch tiles. Any...

Velux Windows - Repair or Replace?

Hi all, I have a number of Velux windows in my loft conversion (done long before I bought the place). I can't tell you the model numbers as the labels are too faded to read. A couple of them leak somewhere - I can't tell if its the rubber seal between the window and the outer frame or if...

Leaking 15 degree roof with Velux windows and Sandtoft 20/20

So the pitch is 15 but the tiles at the top of the velux are siting on a batten and kicking up meaning that these tiles are much lower than the 15 of the rest are they not ?.And because they are very smooth the wind is blowing the water up under. This should not be a problem because you also...

Sandtoft 20/20 tiles around Velux Windows 15 Degrees

Do you mean so the battens are effectively double height so there is no kick up at the velux

    New roof feedback please

Everything starts with the bottom Velux tile. You need to get this one seated correctly, or else it has a knock-on effect to all those above it. We go to a lot of trouble trimming, grinding and faffing so that this first cut tile is seated as best it can be. There may have also been a wee bit...

    Poor tiling around Velux?

Christ on a bike I read some blarney on this thread! There is no way you can possibly get tiles to sit perfectly flat when installing a Velux, even more so when the tiles themselves are non profiled. You can make efforts to reduce the kick but rest assured - there will be some kick. The...

    Velux Window Advice

Hi "redtogreen" My neighbour has a veluxe fitted in his roof. It is an eye sore. Looking from garden it lifts a good 30mm +. I believe the neighbour asked the installer why isn't the window flush with tiles. The installer gave him all the BS he could think of. He supposed to have come...

Is this normal? Tiles around velux look messy

Hi there, I was wondering if someone could take a look and let me know if this is normal. I know the tiles are supposed to kick up abit by the windows but it seems they are not sitting quite right. The roofer said that it's done like this in order to be insulated well. Is there anything that...

Problems with Velux - tiles bow up

No way around that I'm afraid as it's the foam strip that is kicking the tiles up, it wouldn't have looked so bad if you had used a profiled tile but you will always get that. The Velux brochure always makes it look as though it sits well but it doesn't Not entirely sure that those cut tiles...

Aaah, New Roof Leaking. Can't Understand Why!

The roof is naff through and through. The ridges look like he pointed them up using his c*ck, the mortar looks like a bricklayers 6-1 mix(too sandy) and the flashings are left short and messy. No need for those ugly ridges in the middle, should have used a bonding gutter. Tiles kicking...

    Velux Window Advice

All I can suggest is you do as I suggested and look which ridge on the side flashing he has leant the edge of the tile on...I bet he has put them on the tall ridge THIS IS WRONG AND WILL CAUSE THE TILE TO KICK UP..The tile is supposed to butt up to it and rest on the shallower of the ridges...

New unvented GRP cold roof... can this be fixed?

I'm no expert on the VCL thing (though if that room is going to be a kitchen/living space then there will be a lot of water vapour kicking around). In your favour, GRP is a reasonable thermal insulator (much better than tin sheets) but it is a bit if a risk since any damage will be invisible til...

Vauxhall Velu(o)x ? Ok if you park in the roof space .. must be that salty air !! Wot if no 'window on the world' ? escape routes downstairs are cut, kids are wailing ...... Never mind that ..... Let me tell you a story .... A little boy comes down to breakfast. Since they live on a farm...

New roof looks a bit dodgy??

The lifting by the chimney is because the roof has settled over the years and the chimney hasn't and the fact that roof slates are wide units. It is difficult to get tiles to sit flat around a Velux, but they seemed to manage it one one Velux and not the other..?
