We have a bit of an issue. Neighbour is not happy for me to go ahead is say that it could do more damage, even though I explained it's simply smoke and will show any leaks. Damn it!
OK, most ironic epilogue ever: whilst posting that last reply I forgot I was making toast and the smoke alarm alerted me and most of my neighbours at nearly nidnight!
As an engineer it means little to me that you say it is warm as I have no idea what temperature that is.
The first thing to do in a case like this is for the gas fitter to put a smoke pellet into your fireplace and into the neighbour's to see which chimney the smoke comes out of.
Its quite...
Big-all has covered most of the angles as usual.
However, you would be well advised to get your neighbours together, and do a smoke test up your flue, they need to be present in their flats to observe if any smoke leaks out.
The c/breast in the loft should also be checked for leaking smoke -...
I was talking with a neighbour today who's just recently given up smoking and I couldn't remember when I gave up the dirty filthy stinking habit. Is that a milestone ? Am I cured ?
It's the shape of the buildings causing the problem. If you released smoke in the area it would tend to rotate. My bet is that the neighbour would say it was just as much your flue as theirs causing the problem (regardless that it is installed legally).
The impression I get is that the ladder installers charge about £300 for a stainless liner installed.
With scaffolding that would be about £800.
I have not understood where this smoke is coming from in your neighbours.
If its within the loft then why can that not be pointed/rendered...
He's got a gas fire which isn't lined. When a smoke bomb was placed in the stack. The smoke came out into our attic room. So we believe that has to be lined for safety reasons. But it has been suggested that the top of neighbours chimney be removed to see if there are any other stacks that have...
Out of interest North. do you or anyone around you or your neighbour
smoke or ever had smoked?
I ask because if the answer is yes then you really are throwing caution to the wind in my opinion.
Keep the hose running, and keep it wet.
Me and my brother removed the same garage but the...
Guy Fawkes night/Halloween, invite the neighbours to the barbeque, not often its a win win. Just keep up wind, as it might smoke a bit.
Couple of dry pallets and a few rags of home heating oil, should get it going?
Good luck with this one, I have the same problem (I am a semi-militant non-smoker, my downstairs neighbour smokes so much his face is the colour of nicotine).
I would be interested to hear the outcome of this one.
Was helping a friend out with some decorating today and while outside having a smoke I noticed this. The arrow points to an thin rod driven into the ground. Am I right in thinking that the earth wire should be connected to the rod? This was outside next door neighbours house.
There are no...
Our neighbour had just started using his chimney after having it opened and a cowl fitted during the summer. (nice considerate neighbour)
The problem is the cowl, the type that looks like half an upturned drain pipe, directs the smoke stratight at out property as were are on a...
Don't keep the windows open on that side as it seems to draw in more smoke from the neighbours :-(
No chimneys on shared walls.
Haven't checked the loft yet
Yes it was originally one detached house that has been split in to two.
Thanks for your help
We live in a semi. Our neighbours have installed a log burner. When they light it we have smoke coming into our rooms. Even the bedroom (upstairs) smells smoky. Should they have installed some sort of liner and/or extended their chimney?
It sounds like its a large scale one so before you build it I would think about its location.
Your neighbours probably would like to sit out in their garden or have their washing out on hot days without having your smoke drifting over.
To be honest unless you're going to invite your...
There are 5 houses of 5 different colours. In each house lives a person of a different nationality. Each of the 5 residents drinks a certain type of beverage, smokes a certain brand of cigar, and keeps a certain pet. None of them have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar or drink the...
Hi mate, my other half has 2 sons who are addicted to the stuff.
A few years when we all lived in same house our neighbour knocked to say same thing as happening to you. The boys smoked the stuff in their bedroom and neighbour complained (nicely) that it seemed to go through and stink out...
