    Removing Lincrusta frieze temporarily

We are looking for advice for removing a lincrusta frieze in a Victorian house safely so it can be put back again once building work is complete. The wall it is on is being removed and a RSJ going in behind where the lincrusta is currently, We have removed the picture rail and thinking a flat...

Air issue with UFH - Solar Filling Pump?

I've got a relatively new UFH system on an existing S Plan with system boiler & unvented cylinder. The UFH has never worked properly which we think is due to air in the system, the main symptom being the Wilo pump will flash red/green and stop pumping water around the loops. Despite flushing...

    Intermediate light switch issue

Thanks, that was indeed the issue. I couldn’t remember how the live & S/W live were connected to COM, L1 & L2 in the Wago as it’s now inaccessible. Joined the COM (blacks) in the back of the intermediate switch & connected brown to L1 and grey to L2 which sorted it.

    Intermediate light switch issue

Yet another post about 3 way light switch wiring! I've read quite a few posts but I have an odd one which still can't make head nor tail of despite checking & double checking wiring diagrams. I have 2 x 2 way switches at each end with intermediate in the middle. With the current wiring the...

Reverse flow with UFH & rads?

They were originally according to the design spec. The pic shows far right and far left fully open as I was just testing what would happen with a couple of circuits running rather than all of them (still the rads were heating up)

Reverse flow with UFH & rads?

Got a bit of an issue with a newly installed UFH system on an existing S Plan with system boiler & unvented cylinder. The UFH has been added to a new first floor of the property which includes rads in the rooms without UFH. A branch has been taken off the 28mm flow and return from the boiler to...

Cutting tapered strips to fill gaps between door & frame

Huge amount of work to remove, re-plaster the inevitable loose bits around the frame, refit and redecorate. They are the original Victorian deep frames & architrave.

Cutting tapered strips to fill gaps between door & frame

As part of a project to upgrade some old Victorian doors to 20min fire doors (agreement with building control), I need to decrease the gap between door and frame on several of them and them use Intumescent coating on the internal side & edges of the doors. Then finally fit intumescent strips...

Can't get radiator bleed screw to seal.

I've got an old cast iron panel radiator that I've recently had stripped and repainted. On piping up it has a weeping leak from the bleed screw at the top. Taking the screw out and cleaning up I could see the screw thread has a notch in it and the hole that it screws into also has notches in...

Omnie TorFloor UFH - anyone used it?

I did yes, although it is not up and running yet as I've not finished the renovation project. Having never installed one before I found it easy to install once I'd read all the instructions and watched the skill builder youtube videos a few times. The components sent are good quality and the...

Levelling between shower tray and plywood floor

We've just laid a wet room shower tray former (30mm) thick direct to joists as specified. Unfortunately the floor around it isn't quite level which is a suspended floor again with UFH and overlaid in 6mm plywood (glued & screwed). To bring the floor level with the shower tray (which is...

Alexa relay for existing door bell

Yes 12v at the bell point along with the door push. Shelly 1 sounds like a good option, the blurb says it can be used to detect a door bell push. I just need to find a wiring diagram to find out how to do it :)

Alexa relay for existing door bell

I've got a victorian style 12v wired door bell in my house but looking to modify it so it could notify the various Echo Dots I have around the house. A routine would be straightforward enough, but need a relay or similar that would get triggered when the door bell is pressed. Doing a search...

    Stripping windows high up

The paint isn’t sound unfortunately after a variety of bad paint jobs over the years. Lots of flaking & too much paint. I’ve already got draft strips/beads & new pulleys from Mighton ready to go in.

    Stripping windows high up

I've got some sash windows to strip of multiple layers of paint which are 2 floors up in a victorian block with other flats below. I can get the windows out no problem and strip them inside but I need to find a good way of stripping the frames without all the cr*p ending up in the outdoor area...

Omnie TorFloor UFH - anyone used it?

I’m looking at this UFH solution for an upcoming project on suspended timber floors. https://www.omnie.co.uk/torfloor/ It’s the only solution I’ve found which gives a low floor build up and is designed to replace the structural floor. It comprises a routed 22mm chipboard sheet with a foil...

1st fix for possible HW cylinder upgrade

Won't the 22mm from the cylinder to the 1st floor where it splits off to the 3 bathrooms mean a longer wait for hot water? Assuming the feed from stopcock to cylinder is in 22mm then with a flow rate of 20l p/m and 3.5 pressure mean the outlets on 1st floor can all be in 15mm (3 showers, 3...

Wall mounting tablet with hidden power supply

I think I've figured it out, looking at the site above they sell a PoE to USB power adaptor that converts 24v to 5v. In my case I have a PoE switch that outputs 48v and I found a 48V to 5v micro USB splitter cheap on Amazon that will do it. I can stick this in the back box and mount the tablet...

Wall mounting tablet with hidden power supply

I'm looking to wall mount a tablet (probably Android) to run Action Tiles so it will show CCTV & various sensor status. The wall mount part is straight forward as there appear to be plenty of universal holders on eBay that will mount it against the wall. I was thinking to sink a double back...
