    Building regs for laundry chute

Hello. I am thinking about putting a laundry chute from an upstairs toilet into my garage/utility room. I was wondering if there were any relevant building regs I should be aware of. Because the upstairs toilet isn't really big enough to for the chute, I was thinking of having a...

    Laundry chute?

Well it is slightly mad but why not? Its your house after all! Usually designed for commercial premises‘, they can look somewhat utilitarian, no doubt one of the commercial firms would be happy to supply you with everything you need. Essentially though, for a house, its just a hole through the...

    High Rise Fire

Christ! Given the height of the building vs its footprint, these shafts would be almost vertical. Half the users would probably die of fright, while the other half would be fighting with the firefighters for another go!

    High Rise Fire

I was thinking more like a permanent arrangement in a protected environment within the building, with access 'chutes' from each floor. Kinda like the old laundry chutes. But your idea has been in use before.

Cutting laundry chute access through brick wall

You probably don't need a lintel at all, for that size opening structurally. As a rule, a PCC lintel would do.

    laundry chute.

There are definitely regulations - they are just written to be very broad and do not get down to the detail of stuff like laundry chutes. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2010/2214/schedule/1/made For example, go down to B3, Internal fire spread (structure). It doesn't mention any...
