How can I improve the finish on this piece of wood using Danish Oil?

I already sanded it. I took the finish off completely (or at least I thought I did), with a sander using 80 grit paper (then 220 grit). Then I started with the coats of danish oil.

How can I improve the finish on this piece of wood using Danish Oil?

The lighter area is where the sun comes in from a window to the right. It’s had about seven or eight coats now, and I still can’t get a uniform finish. Is there anything I can do with Danish Oil to achieve that? At the minute, I’m just applying the oil, letting it soak and buffing it.

Do I need primer for this paint job?

I’m repainting the woodwork on my house. Some of the sills are fine. Some are starting to flake and one will need repairing with filler. Am I okay to paint over these after removing the flaky paint or do I need to go back to bare wood and put primer on? The paint I’ve got is Sandtex exterior...

Any possible fixes for this Danfoss 4033 timer that’s stopped working?

Thanks. Nothing to do with the timer unit then?

Any possible fixes for this Danfoss 4033 timer that’s stopped working?

We have an old Danfoss 4033 timer that controls when our boiler turns on and off and the timer bit has just stopped turning by itself, so we’re no longer able to programme it to come on. (Although the boiler still works fine if we turn it on manually via the on/off switches of the Danfoss? Is...

Options for securing a ladder to a house?

It's basically a few small jobs rather than one big job where I'll be up there for ages: resealing first floor windows (two of them), painting sills, painting foul pipe, putting up hooks for Xmas lights. Budget is limited so if I can get away with using a ladder I will. I can do some of the prep...

Options for securing a ladder to a house?

I have some work I need to do to the exterior of my house that requires working up a ladder for an extended period. Are there any commercial products for securing a ladder that are worth buying? The reason why I ask is because we recently had someone from Openreach come to the house and the...

Is it feasible to lay parquet directly on top of floorboards?

Thanks, makes sense. I might check to see if the boards are hardwood (it's a 60s house, so they might be) and look into whether I could recondition the boards as a stopgap solution until we have the budget for parquet all the way through the house.

Is it feasible to lay parquet directly on top of floorboards?

We're looking to take up the carpet in a room in our house that's going to become a nursery. We're strictly limited on the budget and will be putting down reclaimed parquet. My question is, is it feasible as long as the floorboards are in good condition and level to lay the reclaimed parquet...

Are these weep holes? (Pics included)

Okay. So an update on this. (I hope I’m not speaking into the void, hopefully someone with the knowledge can help.) I’ve managed to clear out the first three ‘weep holes’ after much difficulty and many Stanley blades. Here are the pics. Correct me if I’m wrong but it looks like something solid...

Are these weep holes? (Pics included)

I’m going to have a go at this job this weekend. Should I remove the sealant and fill in the holes with weep vents? I’m also going to grind out and fill in the gap in the mortar above.

Are these weep holes? (Pics included)

I see what you mean. I can only guess though. Maybe the last person who had the house assumed they were just degraded mortar and filled them? Would I be best off drilling a hole in them?

Are these weep holes? (Pics included)

Oh crap. That sounds dodgy. How can I tell if there’s a boot lintel?

Are these weep holes? (Pics included)

Thanks. Am I okay to just remove the mastic and repair the mortar, or do I need to worry about the lintel? We’ll probably replace the windows in a couple of years but would rather patch up for now.

Are these weep holes? (Pics included)

Ah, I'd better leave them then. Any idea why there would be that white gunk in there? Some kind of adhesive for weep vents? In that case maybe the culprit is the degraded mortar two rows up? Although then again isn't the point of the weep vents to expel any water that gets in that way?

Are these weep holes? (Pics included)

So about two weeks ago, when there was that massive thunderstorm, we had water (a lot of it) dripping into our house from the upper section on the alcove of the interior of this window. Logically, I'm thinking there's a problem with degraded mortar on the exterior wall, which when there's a lot...

Seeking advice on cost effective scaffold options

Was that a MiTower? I thought they were a lot more expensive than that? Different brand?

Seeking advice on cost effective scaffold options

I've got a few jobs I need to do on my house: *Repointing mortar (including around the upper level) *Painting a metal drainpipe that goes all the way to the gutter at the roof *Resealing all window exteriors and painting sills This is obviously too much to do on a ladder (for me at least)...

Can anyone identify these replacement parts I need to buy for my kitchen cabinets?

I have two broken parts in my kitchen cabinets: one wide opening door hinge and one gripper thing that holds the board under the cabinets in place. Please see the pics. What are these parts called and where can I buy them (if not eBay/Amazon)? Thanks.
