Breezer, your a star. Just found same prob under general forum to which you replied confirming it is probably the diverter/motorised valve.

CH heating doesn't come on when turned on, but if run hot water from taps etc it will then come on for half an hour or so. Its as though it comes on to replace the hot water used from the taps, though it does heat up the radiators etc as normal, but only remains on for half hour at the most...

When heating is turned on lots of buzzing coming from diverter valve ( this is a grey square box, Siemens, fitted close to the pump ) and heating takes between 30mins and an hour to fire up. Is the problem likely to be with the diverter valve or the pump ??? and any solutions ?? Thanks...
