CH heating doesn't come on when turned on, but if run hot water from taps etc it will then come on for half an hour or so. Its as though it comes on to replace the hot water used from the taps, though it does heat up the radiators etc as normal, but only remains on for half hour at the most.

Have had a problem with diverter valve which is next to the pump, and someone is fitting a new one for me soon. Is this likely to be the problem still, or could it be something different, ie the pump or the thermostat.

Thanks in advance.

Breezer, your a star.
Just found same prob under general forum to which you replied confirming it is probably the diverter/motorised valve.

have you tried to remove the motor on your motorised valve.after placing the lever in the manual position and squirt a little WD40 on the valve spindle, then operate the valve spindle by hand a few times before reassembly

Sounds a bit complicated for me Mandate. From what i can gather, the spring has gone inside the valve

The spring you refer to is part of the motor not the valve.
It is a matter of pulling the fuse, removing 4 screws(probabley torque heads),pulling the motor assembley off the end of the spindle.
You can then turn spindle with fingers,
I looked at one about six months ago and there was a little resistance which was eliminated by the WD40
