    Hedge cutter carberetor issue

I’ve been told by the repair shop I need a new carburetor for my hedge cutter at £85 plus vat. It’s a case of just buying a new one instead, but I would prefer to clean the carb myself. Is it easy to do? It’s a mountfield hedge cutter so about £130 in screwfix new

    Replacing velux and plastering

I need to replace a velux, and will use the same size again. I need to remove the side reveals so wondered if anyone had any tips. Plan to multi tool around all the plaster board beading and then pull out the reveals. Then fit new velux, then fit new reveals and set in place new beads. So...

    Position of shower tray

My plan is to use a piece of glass on the side (1200 x 1900 got it for £40). Then just use a shower curtain at the opening fitted to the bar holding the glass in place. I think the tray is a fancy slate effect one and i got it for £10. So if i do it as planned, water could overflow where the...

    Position of shower tray

I am fitting a new shower set up in a rented house. I have got this 1200mm long shower tray which I will use. My question concerns the position of it. I want to have the shower trap at the front of the shower where you enter it. This means servicing the trap and waste pipe work in the...

Position of the newel post at top stairs

Different angle. The top left of the stairs will contain a cupboard, so not open and the rest of the area will have a stud wall stopping you falling.

Position of the newel post at top stairs

Does the newel post have to sit level with the highest step or could you set it on the second to last step? The photo shows the post would go where my tape measure is, but if I set it back a bit I get more space to get into the room.

    Rejigging messy downpipes

Having a think I am going to stick a hopper in at that corner and run a drain pipe down until I get lower to the ground and then angle across and drop into the down pipe round the corner. This will mean replacing that down pipe in black plastic as well (a job we were doing next year anyway)...

    Rejigging messy downpipes

On a block of flats I look after we need to renew the downpipe which takes the water from the rear roof section. The valley area has flooded recently as the downpipe came uncoupled. It is a pretty messy set up however with very few brackets. I hope you can see from the photos what I want to...

Combi boiler with accessible pressure valve

Yes i use the main boilers, but have had a few duotecs on gov schemes. I will prob look at the main again. Im not replacing any duotecs, just fitting a new boiler install on a new flat i have ripped out. No gas on this property so had a new gas feed put in by the network. Now its time to get...

Combi boiler with accessible pressure valve

That’s a typo. Repressurise. I must have the baxi netatec then as it was a pain to re pressure for the engineer on service. If they are all serviceable then that’s good.

Combi boiler with accessible pressure valve

I’ve got some baxi boilers and some have the expansion vessel valve easily accessible. But on another boiler it is located at the top of the boiler case and it makes it harder to depressurise. All these boilers are duotecs but one has this issue. Anyway I need to get a new boiler and it must...

Changing large cast gutter to plastic

I noticed some flash band type repair on the gutter when I was doing a new roof window. If this is finlock what does that mean. It will be original from 1890

Changing large cast gutter to plastic

We need to paint this cast iron gutter and do all the facia boards as they havent been done for ages. The cast gutter leaks quite badly at the joints and so this needs addressing. I am not sure of the size of the gutter as i havent been up there yet, but i was wondering if it might not be...

    Attaching to a slate vent

Ah ha, a possible solution. Could I not stay in rectangular from the extractor all the way to the slate vent. This is the bit I am not sure about, but I will look at the rectangular stuff. Thanks

    Attaching to a slate vent

It’s a big standard extractor hood for a hob. So the same dimension as 100mm extraction tubing diameter. I need to go from this to the back of the slate vent. The adapter works normally but in this case I need to see if I can find something less chunky.
