    Plasterboarding - advice

I was thinking of adding a plug socket to the wall. What do you mean by safe zones?

    Plasterboarding - advice

It will be basically be a "skin" on top/in front of an existing concrete wall (in a bedroom), so will be screwing the studs to that wall. It's sole purpose is to hide cables etc, which probably seems a bit OTT, but far easier than channeling into concrete! And easier to make changes in future.

    Plasterboarding - advice

I'm about to build a stud wall, and while I'm confident working with wood, I have never plasterboarded anything in my life. I'm keen to give it a go, but I never underestimate any task (I've made that mistake before!), so I wanted to ask the pro's some questions first. 1. Is there any...

    Extending a plug socket

Hello all. I want to add a plug socket in my bedroom and since I know nothing about electrics I would like some advice! There is a plug socket a few metres away, so would the normal procedure be to run a cable from that one to the new location or does it not work like that? Also, it...

    Stud Wall Questions

The main wall in my bedroom is solid concrete and I want to build a stud wall on top of it. The reason for this is that I want to put a TV and speakers on the wall (and hide all the cabling) and fit a plug socket, and a stud wall would make all of this much easier. I've never built one, and I am...

What is this inside my wall?

Very true. I will definitely consider that option, although I think it might be fun to destroy the old wall!

What is this inside my wall?

Thank you to all. I am seriously thinking of removing this wall and having a more traditional stud wall put up in it's place. It won't cost much and will give me so many more options. I'm going to have to check the other walls now!

What is this inside my wall?

Hello all. I am in the process of redecorating my bedroom and I am looking at ways of routing cables behind the walls. All of the walls apart from one are plasterboard. So to investigate I cut a hole in one of the smaller walls, and found what seems to be some kind of cardboard lattice...

    BOXING

A boxer knows the risks they take every time they step into a ring, and if they choose to do so they choose to live with the consequences should anything occur in the ring or later in life. Risk is part of life. If everything remotely dangerous got banned there would be nothing left to do.

    Skimming walls - Help!

Thanks for all the advice. :) I have to remove the skirting and do a couple of other jobs, and luckily I have the next couple of days off so I think I will just go ahead and get as much of the paint off as I can. roughcaster: I thought that's what the tape was for, wasn't sure though. I'm...

    HDTV

Ah, sounds like the image processor in the TV struggling to keep up, most likely el-cheapo or older sets like you say. Mine is two and a half years old and it has no such problems. And any new or half-decent sets should definitely be fine in that regard.

    HDTV

Your shiny new plasma is capable of showing much more detail than your old CRT, hence your picture looks worse. Standard (PAL) TV is broadcast at 720 x 576 pixels, which is the resolution of your CRT TV so the picture looks good. I can't say for certain what res your plasma is, but it's at...

    Skimming walls - Help!

Thanks for replying guys. Another question: Whilst peeling back the paint on the plasterboard walls, I noticed the layer underneath is papery to touch and in fact in some places the paint took off what looks like tissue paper with it. Is this bare plasterboard? If so, does that need to be...

    Skimming walls - Help!

Hello all, I am redecorating a bedroom and the walls could do with a skim of plaster but I'm unsure what I need to do to prepare. I know zip about DIY, and I've got so many questions whizzing around in my head I don't know where to begin. Three of the four walls are plasterboard, and one...
