Ok, so I've now opened up the boiler and tried to work out what's going on. When I run a hot tap, both pins extend from the differential valves and make their respective microswitches. This happens even when the selector switch on the front of the boiler is set to 'hot water' only. The radiators...

Ah, my mistake. What is the difference between the diverter valve and the differential valve? I can only find mention of the differential valve in the Servicing Manual.

Righto - I've replaced the capacitor, tried to start the thing again, but the timer is still making a loud chattering noise and the drum is still not turning. Does anyone know what voltages I'm meant to be getting on what terminals, and at what point in the cycle?
