110mm hob extractor... Letting in rain water

Hi moved into a house that will (money depending) be getting a new roof and kitchen next year. We are getting a bit of rain water in through the hob extractor (flex pipe cracked). Can't seem to find a rain cover on screw fix or Toolstation... Am I missing something. Worse case is it best just...

Damp bedroom, possible cause by adjoining wall..

Hi, thanks again for responding, I pointed that out to the 2 builders, and pro treat as that's what I thought. They all assured me that was ok, which I thought a bit odd. Under the flags is 1 inch of sand then it's solid concrete. I can't see the damp proof course in that area, at the back of...

Damp bedroom, possible cause by adjoining wall..

Hi jadele, that's a really question, and possibly what stumped the damp restoration company and builder. The is no sign of damp in the bedroom, is just smells foisty, especially when the dehumidifier fills, which when it does reads 80% humidity (max reading) more or less straight away, so my...

Damp bedroom, possible cause by adjoining wall..

Hi, We seen to have damp in a ground floor bedroom. Had 2 builders round and a damp prevention company but none have been able to advise corrective actions. However while walking round the back I noticed the pointing on an adjoining wall has come away and I can see into the cavity of the house...

Moved into a new house with a log burner - stupid questions

Well gents, the chimney sweep has now been, he said it all looks good but did recommend getting a more modern stove and increasing the height of the chimney stack, but said it is safe and shouldn't cause any problems. The stove does seem to be much easier to light now and logs are completely...

    28mm overflow into garage!!

Well, After the purchase of a SDS Drill, Diamond core drill set and plenty of 32mm solvent weld pipe, I now have a proper fix in place, still waiting on my cousin (plumber) calling round to find out why it is leaking, but thanks to everyone for all the help, feeling a lot better now that there...

Does anyone know what and how to use this?

Moved into a new house and we have 3 hobs, 2 gas burner, 2 electric, and a large griddle type halogen. Not sure what the halogen is for, it isn't smooth, like you'd expect to put a pan on, but doesn't look like it is designed to cook straight onto either. Thanks Darren.

Moved into a new house with a log burner - stupid questions

Thanks for the responses, I'll stop using until the chimney is swept them, I'm guessing they will know and be able to inspect to advise if it is safe or not. Don't really want to set the house on fire! With regards the tv, we are planning on putting a deep mantle above it to divert the heat...

Moved into a new house with a log burner - stupid questions

Hi, I have moved house and we have a very small log burner. I really don't know what I'm doing with it so have some stupid questions! Will the chimney need sweeping? Why Doesn't it kick out any heat (the chimney is direct above, I assume all the heat is dissipating out of the top). What can...

    28mm overflow into garage!!

I think it is an unvented cylinder, it's been boxed in with partition walls, I'll take the wooden slats of the top tonight so I can look properly! Can I ask why this would be an issue please?

    28mm overflow into garage!!

Hi I did think that, but thought it might be best to keep it sealed, but guess it would only be like a washing machine trap doing it that way.

    28mm overflow into garage!!

Hi, I have moved into a new (old) house, and it has a system boiler. The water tank is next to the garage with the overflow just on a down pipe into it. There is quite a lot of run off on this and the previous owner has fudged a hose pipe onto the end and just run under the garage door. This...

tiling in a bath. should I fit a new tap to be safe.

Hi I'm just about to start tiling my bathroom and the wife wants the bath panel tilling. I'm concerned if anything goes wrong with the tap then this would then be a nightmare to fix. Currently we have quarter turn taps which I guess are about 10 years old. Is it with replacing now while I can...

    Installing LED lights

Hi Guys, thanks for the replies, unfortunatley, changing to GU10 or pendants would be just as expensive and adding new transformers. Really I'm looking for the cheapest way possible of adding LED lights. Our apartment was very cold in winter, never had the heating on high. Now that we...

hi, Thanks for the replies, I'm going to insulate it this weekend, so hopefully we will see a small difference next year. The values are based on metre readings unfortunatley. Thanks, Darren.

    TV bracket on plasterboard possible?

I wouldn't mount of plaster board alone, especially not a tv, however my friend did his a couple of years ago and it's still up there. I would not normally mention this as it may be encouraging you to do, which i'm not, but I recently removed a big 3Kw radiator from my hallway, which weighed...
