Trying to name and locate these catches.

Nice handles and fitted to the very best cabinets and furniture in the 1800's / early 1900's and the piece you have was probably quite a sum of money back then. Anyway I found some on here for you... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/355576942674

    Mottie to the rescue.

It is a Moorhen chick as it has a red beak, I always distinguish them from a Coot as their is an "R" in red and Moorhen but no "R" in Coot.

Fixing Shower caddy to a pvc clad wall, I'm sure a screw would crush the cladding and not sure that the cladding would hold the weight if I glued it

These are a good alternative as they extend to the space available and tighten up with a quick twist : https://www.dunelm.com/product/bathroom-basics-extendable-4-tier-corner-caddy-1000030058?defaultSkuId=30110114&branchCode=0480&gStoreCode=480

    Bathroom advice

You need a firm surface so scrape off anything that is loose or flaking with a scraper and wire brush and give it a coat of PVA and then you can give it a coat of Bonding to level it up ready for the backer boards.

Foundations - is my house built on a pad, gurt deep foundations, or am I in deep do-do?

If it was built in the 80's you should be able to go on your local council Planning Dept web site and search for the address which may give you the planning application details with the drawings etc. While that may not give you full structural details it will give you the applicants name and...

    Replacing Corrugated Plastic Roof

It's a relatively simple "old sheets off, new sheets on" kind of job but definately use new fixings. Screwfix do these and Wickes also stock similar... https://www.screwfix.com/p/corrapol-polycarbonate-fixings-clear-60mm-x-20mm-50-pack/871fh

Robins - why so very tame

If you have ever noticed when digging the garden or clearing leaves etc there is quite often a Robin not far away and they have learnt that humans are quite often a source of food so they loiter nearby and the minute you stop and sit still a few metres away they often dive in and pick out...

    Floorboards in a kitchen?

I would say you are safe with those unless you have underfloor heating or similar temperature variations that may affect the floor but it is unlikely they will suffer in normal conditions.

    What is this cable for

It looks like incoming cable TV but a photo of the cable end in the house and info of where it goes outside will help, such as does it go underground or go up the wall to something etc...?

A non-slip loo seat which slips

You need to unscrew the screw and then push the sleeve through from above or back up from below to remove it from the pan. If the screw does not undo then you may have to prise it up but take care as you don't want to damage the loo so protect it if you are using anything that may mark it.

    What slabs are these?

I see, the devil in me would get a relative / friend etc to ring him and get him to give a ballpark quote on X sq m paving for a patio they want doing saying they saw it over the fence of "their mother's" house on "your street" and say they like that pattern etc and what is it called etc, etc...

Gutter became loose in storms and now flaps against the roof tiles when the wind is in a specific direction - How to fix?

Not sure they do a factory made clip for that type of situation so most likely it will have been either a lead or copper strap which was hooked or fixed below a tile and bent to shape over the edge of the gutter to retain it as shown. Given the proximity of the tiles to the ridge it will be...

    What slabs are these?

Looks a bit like Marshall's Argent but there are so many similar it could be numerous others. Did you get an invoice or quote detailing the flags from the tradesman when he did the work or any packaging left from the delivery or do you know which merchant they came from etc...?

METAL ROOFING insulation to avoid SWEATING

You said you were replacing it with the box section sheets but then went on to mention you had "reached the stage of planning the roof" leading me to think you had not yet decided or bought the sheets. Your planned option is pretty similar in make up of the insulated panels but do remember you...

METAL ROOFING insulation to avoid SWEATING

I have used the box profile insulated metal roof sheets before and they are available in a large range of thicknesses. The inside is a white metal skin and so does not need any finishing and they can do an anti condensation option. You can order them cut to length and are quick and easy to...

    Substitute 12.5mm for 15mm Plasterboard

Just pack it out by a couple of mm so the 12.5mm boards sit flush to the 15mm boards.

Lead work on slate roof around new wood stove flue, is it right?

Technically it is right but could have been better in that the slates should have been laid over the flashing and cut a few inch from the pipe and shaped around it but most likely the fitter did not know how or have the tools to be cutting slate. It will be waterproof (fingers crossed) and could...

    What's this pipe?

You don't mention the size but it looks like a standard 110mm drainage soil pipe so it could be just an offcut that has been backfilled or it may have had a cover on for a rodding eye or a seperate branch to a previous drain. Best try to clear it out and see how deep it goes and in what...

Opening up a fireplace for a wood burner

What you have there is the original opening which has the arched header and it has been built in some time ago to create the smaller opening with the rectangular lintel. All the brickwork inside the red lines can be removed along with the lower lintel and it will expose the original cavity with...
