Extending joists and hanging on wall plate

There will be enough room for the screws to fix through even with joist hangers, it may just need a longer screw and perfectly fine with the other end being on hangers too. As the joists can't physically move in any direction, and are fixed into the hangers and through from the floor above...

Extending joists and hanging on wall plate

If he has fully face nailed the hangers and also nailed the top of the wallplate then you will have nothing to be worried about as he has given it plenty of overlap and adequate number of fixings too but you could ask him to skew nail or even screw some more fixings diagonally through the...

Mixing old and new wall tiles... thicknesses...

Depends on the depth you have available but Jackoboard or similar may work if you can get the 6mm space. If not then Undercloak, used in roofing on the verges could work as that is thinner and is a cement based product...

    Adapting skirting for panelling

Yes that would be the way to do it and if you clamp or pin a straight timber onto a length of skirting you can saw down the edge of it and keep a nice straight line.

    Adapting skirting for panelling

The timber running up the stairscase is known as the stringer and is an integral part of the stairs so the best way to match this so it runs through the same would be to rip down a length of Lamb's tongue skirting, which is what you have, and fix it to the top of the stringer. With a bit of care...

    Best Stanley Knife or Equivalent?

I have had one of these for a number of years now and can say they are very solid and as they retract are safe and easy to store. I give the runner a spray of WD40 every so often and it works a treat. Tough and well built and i will buy another if this ever vanishes...

What shall I use to fix this Quartz top onto this wooden trolley?

I would say the OB1 is a very capable adhesive and you can stick mirrors to the wall with no additional fixings thanks to the very high initial grab strength of it. Both products are very similar in performance but well worth you reading a few reviews on them for a wider opinion.

What shall I use to fix this Quartz top onto this wooden trolley?

The CT1 or OB1 stuff is pretty good at that kind of job and i would lay a bead around the centre of the perimeter frame and also a small splodge on those angle brackets as it will squealch through the hole and you can smooth it off on the underside. The weight of the quartz will ensure it gets a...

    Leaking Guttering (Loft)

Quite possibly due to expansion although may not have been fully into the union so looks like it just needs sliding back into the union bracket. As the left edge has the outlet it may be the right hand side that needs moving so unclip it from the other brackets and make sure it is inserted up to...

Roof joist with connectors, is it safe to board?

Given the spans you are dealing with you will be ok to board it out but obviously do not overload it and make sure you distribute the weight evenly. You also need to aim for getting the joints of your boards to the centre of each joist, especially if they are straight edged like your image...

Metal covering on bricks Victorian house

That is a product called Flashband, a bituminous adhesive strip mainly used in roofing applications to replace lead so it has clearly been used to cover up an issue with the brickwork in that area. Never seen it at ground level and most likely a DIY fix. You may need to remove it all to see what...

    Making good after window install

Screw suitable timbers up the sides and a header timber for the top to leave them 15mm shy of the wall surface and then fit 12mm plasterboard so you have around 3mm for the skim finish.
