Designing a Website for new business

Fair enough, I've amended the original post. By the way, I wouldn't draw too much attention to this as free advertising is against the forum rules.

I've made my point about the guide, I don't think any of my criticism is unfair. steve

    Small fireplace conversion

Just a quick update, I've managed to clear most of the rubble from the fireplace. Here's a pic of what it looks like now http://gmei.imgur.com/lle_tn#MguQ5 I think I'll need some sandblasting on the stones, and possibly repointing. steve

Designing a Website for new business

I took a quick look at your site, and decided that it not really what most people here are after. Everyone's busy, so have little time to spend on getting their online prescence sorted. You talk about combining 4 pieces of software. I think getting to grips with one item of software is...

Designing a Website for new business

Web developer here. Let me give some of my own "pro" advice back to the community :). I've taken a look at the free e-guide [edit: I haven't read the guide, I've read the site which sells the e-guide] and you would be probably better off ignoring its advice. It's complicated and better for...

I'm after advice on a new Central Heating system

Flame wars aside, I think this boils down to (ha!) the question "is there a proper alternative to a combi boiler?". I took a look at the Kotly site, seems that it's for experts. Although I agree that the prices are impressive, even when accounting for delivery accross most of Europe. I've...

I'm after advice on a new Central Heating system

Hi all, So my farmhouse renovation is crawling along. Soon after we bought the house, I found an old inglenook fireplace. This had been bricked up and plastered over, with a small modern fireplace built there. It housed a gas fire with a gas back boiler. I removed it as I wanted to try...

    Small fireplace conversion

OMG! Didn't think about that. Would it be in the form of solid sheets? What should I look out for? Looking forward to your pics. steve

    Small fireplace conversion

They're in good shape. I had an architect take a look at them yesterday, and he told me they were fine. The brick wall lining the fireplace wasn't really supporting anything, so I've started to remove them. You may be able to make out the lintel's padstones in the image below...

    Small fireplace conversion

Just bought an old farmhouse. The previous owner mentioned that a range cooker was removed from the old kitchen in the 50's, when the estate sold it to her family. We guessed that and old fireplace was behind all the plaster, and thought it would be about 3' by 4' in width and height...

    Daylight factor calculator

I've had a go, but with no test data to put in I'm not sure it works as it should. Here's the link (google spreadsheet). Could you give me some units and test data?

    RSJ and supporting wall questions

I'm certain it isn't. The joists run parallell to this wall, and there are no solid walls above it.

What's the formula? I could probably incorporate it into excel.

    RSJ and supporting wall questions

As far as I know, yes. If the only aternatives are joist hangers, then I assume not as I don't know if they were about 130 years ago. However, my intial assumption that the dividing wall was brick is incorrect, hacking away last night I discovered it was stone, so I no longer trust my...

    RSJ and supporting wall questions

Hi, I've recently bought an old farmhouse, built circa 1880. It's of solid construction (or so my surveyor told me) but with the usual problems of rising damp and woodworm which we're currently sorting. The house has 670mm/26" stone walls, with a centre 340mm/13" wall which runs parallel...
