Thanks very much @^woody^! Polystyrene insulation sounds like a good idea. Depending how easily the old screed comes up everywhere else, I might put an expansion strip all the way around against the uPVC as you can literally hear it expanding and contracting.

70s build. I don't know for sure about the porch but from other work elsewhere (e.g. garage) there seems to be some sort of see-through plastic membrane underneath the top layer.

Perhaps the easiest fix would be to try and use an adhesive to re-attach the original floor and newer screeding compound - any recommendations for what might be a good product for that, please?!

Thanks Andy; good idea. In the meantime, this photo pre-drainage repair is maybe a useful comparison: Other than the mortar covering the DPC having dried out a bit, they look pretty similar to my eyes, unfortunately.
