    Smelly drain

Loop a piece of string round the hose and tie it up to hold the pipe. Can't say for definite that is your problem, but it's not correct procedure, and won't help matters. Until it's sorted you won't know.

    Washing Machine smell advice

Old Salt has the correct fitting BTW, the waste pipe from a washing machine or dishwasher should always loop up, right to the underside of the worktop (you can retain it with a clip or a piece of string) so that the water is pumped up and over before running down to the drain. A very common...

IKEA Rengora dishwasher - not draining at end of cycle

Opened it up. No blockages, drain pump looks fine and clean tested resistance anyway 243 ohms so about what is expected. There is a rubber seal to stop return which looked fine but washed with washing up liquid in case any residue. The red tape was what I put on to identify which of the two...

Connecting washing machine waste under sink

Hose needs to go up to around the height of the machine, before dropping down to the drain point, where it connects onto the sink. Frank has given a perfect illustration in the photo above of how it should be done. This is done to prevent any discharge from the sink finding its way into the...

Connecting washing machine waste under sink

Apologies for being thick, but what do you mean by "make sure hose from the washing machine loops up before going back to the machine"? Thanks.

    Leaking sink waste

Is there any slack in the dishwasher outlet hose? If there is, try to get a loop of it up the gap to the side of the sink.

    Leaking sink waste

Good job done, only thing I'd suggest is turn the spigot with the dishwasher hose up a bit, (ideally wants to be vertical, same as the blanked spigot on the opposite end), and try and get the hose to loop up as high as you can before it comes back down to join the trap. Currently you are risking...

Connecting washing machine waste under sink

As above and make sure hose from the washing machine loops up before going back to the machine. Appliance will pump the water out quite happily, whereas gravity flow from the sink wont go back uphill.

    Plumbing in a dishwasher

A 3/4" threaded connector means a washing machine tap. Its universally used for such appliances. Are you going to connect it to a copper pipe? Is there already an outlet for an appliance in your kitchen? BTW that flexible waste hose is wrongly fitted. It should loop up, not down. It will...

Clothes from washing machine come out smelling bad. Could no trap on drain be the cause?

your photo isn't very clear, please show us more. Where is the kitchen sink in relation to the washing machine waste? Does the waste hose from the washer loop up to worktop level before going down to the drain? How did you do the cleaning cycles? Are you in a hard-water area? Or has the...

Ikea retractable tap hose fitting problem - any ideas?

Hi folks. Got a slight problem with the tap I've purchased for the kitchen. The better half chose it a few weeks back and didn't mention to me the one she chose has a retractable hose. Since then I did all the plumbing and waste for the new sink and needed to keep it 'low profile' so a 1/2...

Waste disposal unit / quooker tap problem

Been to a job today and, whilst there, was asked to look at this exact problem... On 3 sinks in the same kitchen... Jewish kitchen, so meat sink, veg sink and utility sink... All 3 incorrectly installed... ribbed hose from boil tap tundishes have the formed trap (by looping it on itself) but is...

Anti syphon valve - should it stop "gurgling"?

Thanks. That's useful advice. Haha! I installed the spigots exactly as they with in the trap that I replaced! By 90 degrees you mean that the spigots point left and right rather than forward and backwards? I am aware that the waste hoses from the appliances are not well installed - there is...

    Stand alone washing machine drainage

When connecting to a sink trap, the outlet hose needs to loop up above sink outlet level to prevent backflow from the sink into the machine. If discharging into a standpipe then as long as the end of the outlet hose is above the height of the top of the machine drum it'll be fine.

    Stand alone washing machine drainage

I'm going to be buying a new kitchen within which the washing machine will be isolated from the sink / dishwasher and will need it's own drain. I'm proposing to run this in the floor, directly into the foul waste, however am unclear about the requirements of the trap. I've had a look at the...

    Maximum height for drain hose?

Hi, I'm just wondering if there is a maximum height for a dishwasher/washing machine drain hose. Due to a sink that was blocking the placement of a twin connector, I have replaced an existing stand pipe, with a higher one to clear the sink. When the hoses are attached, the top of the loops are...

How Do I Plumb This Sink In? [Pic]

Pipework is spot on, feel free to glue it, (if you haven't already!) Dishwasher hose needs looping up so it comes down to the spigot on the trap. A little Plumbers Mait on the waste wont hurt anything, needs some sort of seal there to stop the sink leaking its contents when the plug is in. Old...

    Pink stain on grout

The cold taps on my bath and wash basin are both dripping. (They've not been fixed because I plan to renovate the bathroom). Where the water drips into the basin, the basin is unmarked, but where it drips into the bath, it is leaving a very slight pinkish residue. Also, there is a shower...

Advice how to connect Washing Machine into existing sink U bend

Make sure you loop the washing machine drain hose up, from where it attaches to the waste, to prevent backflow from the sinks(s) running into the washing machine.

15 or 22mm for my Cold Mains? Water loop?

Hi, I have just plumbed all of the Cold Water for my house. I have put in a new 15mm stop cock, pressure reducing valve, drain cock and then 15mm copper pipe with soldered joints to my Kitchen and then to my bathroom. I have done it ALL in 15mm, including up to the Bath taps etc. The reason...
