    Removing mortar from footpath

That could work. It's the old gypsy "want your drive resurfacing?" trick! It may need the whole drive doing though otherwise it will be patchy

    Removing mortar from footpath

Sorry I've just been looking at some data sheets and it seems that hydrochloric acid can damage tarmac/bitumen  Generally hydrochloric acid based cleaners are the best and most efficient. Some other acids will also work but are less efficient/aggressive. Any brick cleaner of a given type...

Got myself a wee problem. Thoughts & ideas appreciated.

They are commonly missed out on house bumping. You'll need a stepped tray - ie small segments each overlapping to account for the roof angle. Follow the manufacturers guide or online videos. You can buy proprietary kits or make your own with wide DPC. Don't forget weep holes, and avoid...

    Bricks fell from wall

You may only need one brick, possibly turned sideways to maximise the gap ether side? Placed centrally if it needs to catch two bricks, or just under the end of the one it needs to catch otherwise. Slate can be used to dry pack, to form a tight wedge if mortar is too much trouble. Yes, a bit...

    Bricks fell from wall

It needs support. Walls move and joints contract and expand as they dry and absorb moisture. Can you drop a brick on end in the opening and pack with slate? Or a similar concept with a plastic or non-ferrous tube (bit of pipe) just to support that one brick?

    Is this a simple repair

It should be simple, but it looks like there is a bonding gutter beneath the tiles and so there may not be a way to secure any replacement tiles - that's why they may have slipped. If so, its not impossible, just make sure that whoever does the work suitably secures the tiles, not just by...

Got myself a wee problem. Thoughts & ideas appreciated.

Flashing is intended to prevent damp from run-off from the tiles, not water running down the walls Read some of the posts about cavity trays, as that may be your problem. You may want a bricklayer, not a roofer Repoint any poor mortar joints - there appears to be some in a band at the level of...

    Removing mortar from footpath

You need a [brickwork] cleaner which is based on hydrochloric acid - which attacks the cement in mortar. Patio cleaners are typically for dirt and algae only. Be careful with any use or splashes on any adjacent cement-based items.

    Flat roof gulley advice

The lead should project out and into the hopper. This ensures all discharge from that box gutter goes into the hopper and nowhere else. This may involve a soldered tray similar to the profile of the box gutter which extends out past the roof edge. New felt should be fitted over the junction of...

    Replacing worn felt.

The non-bodger way would be to replace the first layer of felt with a suitable sarking felt or modern membrane, and fit plastic eaves tray. Exposed felt will rot quickly.

    How to work out...

It's not that simple. The cavity width, the soffit level, and the depth of the rafter notch will impact where the underside of the rafters is and where it intersects the external leaf.

    Water leak from windows lintel

The cause of the water penetration was the crap pointing letting in water. That's the defect that's needs rectifying. The leaking gutter was the aggravating factor this time. Next time it could be just direct rain, or another overflow, and the damp will reoccur. The style of that terrace looks...

    Tobermore retaining wall

It's a new estate. The the developer would have parcelled the plots and provisioned the boundaries, and it's very common for what the developer's solicitor draws up and the builder builds to be different.

    Internal Airbrick Damage - Repair/Replacement

Google plaster vent. They are commonly available. It levers off with a wide scraper, but may pull some skim off with it, which will need repairing after. Stick on with tube adhesive. Take care not to disturb any white or grey looking lining of the hole, as these linings were commonly asbestos...

    Tobermore retaining wall

You need to get that clarified. The T denotes responsibility for the maintaining "the boundary", it does not indicate ownership of any structure or fence on (or immediately adjacent) the boundary or ownership/maintenance of such a structure or fence. Also, be sure you're interpreting their...

Temporary cover/ canopy to allow bricklaying

This January has been exceptionally wet. I recall the previous few winters generally to have been OK for external works - relatively dry with just a few cold days/ nights. If it's important, you could have a scaffold "top hat" structure erected, but that may be costly. It would need to be...

I'm struggling. Surely it will be OK once the red tiles have weathered in? Yogurt may help.
