Hi,

Please take a look at this internal air vent - it's damaged and doesn't look like I can repair it.

I've tried Google, image search, etc. but can't find a replacement - is there such a thing?

I could perhaps remove it and plaster over the thing, (it's one of two in the room) but I think it's there for a good reason (it's a lounge with a gas fire).

I believe that vent is made from plaster. They are still available but are not common.

You could replace it with a metal or plastic one. As there is a gas appliance in the room, you should replace it with one that does not have an open/close control. I also note that it has a fly screen, which you should probably look for in your replacement.

If you want to try repairing what you have, then Milliput should do it. It's a two-part, mouldable, type compound. You just mix equal parts, into a sort of plasticine like mix. Then shape to what's needed. 24 hours and it sets rock hard. Scrap any paint away first, from where the Milliput will attach, to ensure it bonds.

Google plaster vent. They are commonly available.

It levers off with a wide scraper, but may pull some skim off with it, which will need repairing after. Stick on with tube adhesive.

Take care not to disturb any white or grey looking lining of the hole, as these linings were commonly asbestos board.
