How best to determine quality of ceramic WC, Sink etc.,?

We have 2 suites, one an ageing Ideal Standard that we're looking to replace and a second that wasn't bargain basement cheap but is unbranded. To all intents and purposes the glazing looks the same on both but the Ideal Standard WC self cleans - 'no brush!' a lot better than the other. The...

Looking for window supplier who can supply similar?

The good old North South divide? I watch Homes under the Hammer and can never work out how anyone can do a house up with all that entails for £15k? The quoted price for fitting the timber windows down here was £315 per man + vat per day. Probably wanted a cup of tea as well:LOL:

Looking for window supplier who can supply similar?

I agree............and it's been a while since I've had to buy anything of any value so more than a little out of touch:p

Looking for window supplier who can supply similar?

All variables considered. The non white is Cream and readily available, standard DG glass etc., I take it that was £750 a window? The UPVC price above from a trade supplier using REHAU profiles and includes fitting. Thanks. I've had a very quick look at the linked site and their windows...

Looking for window supplier who can supply similar?

Bumping this thread..... We eventually got around to getting some quotes but have still to get these windows replaced. Does this look about right or am I out of touch with wooden window prices? Quotes received so far.. All prices are for 3 of the same size. TIMBER £4,500 primer finish...

Wet look 'concrete' paving 'cobbles' sealer?

I will do. When wet they go darker than the one's in the Bradstone promotional photo. If I get somewhere close I'll be happy...

Wet look 'concrete' paving 'cobbles' sealer?

No, Bradstone carpet cobbles are effectively small concrete pavers attached to a plastic mesh backing, like mosaic kitchen tiles. In these photos, on the left, taken from Bradstone website which is how I want them to look and on the right how mine look after being down for 8 years, and they...

Wet look 'concrete' paving 'cobbles' sealer?

We have a patio made up of rustic red, a light terracotta, Bradstone carpet cobbles which look great when wet. Darker and with a very slight sheen. I've tried a standard sealer from Everbuild, a milky pva type, and looks great on application but barely changes the appearance when dry. Any...

Electricity Meter box, what can I change?

Thankyou for your contribution. Do you use mm when talking to the Sheila's? ;)

Electricity Meter box, what can I change?

....starting to sound expensive. Last time I enquired we were given a price of around £1000 and that was some years ago! Just to clarify, by meter 'box' I mean the cabinet. On closer inspection I can see there's more to it than just a surround. The cabinet is 9" deep. The gap from the front of...

Electricity Meter box, what can I change?

The electricity Meter box is fixed to the solid brick wall of our Victorian house and protrudes approximately 8 inches. We are being encouraged to convert the meter to a smart one and see this as a possible opportunity to set a shallower box in the wall. This will require the delicate removal...

Double Glazing - out of touch with prices?

Your smug attempt at sarcasm wasn't required for me to get a helpful response from crank39. I can now move forward and get second quotes or a tub of filler for the existing timber windows. Why only 3 quotes when you could get 5, 6, 10 and waste the time of all but one tradesman?

Double Glazing - out of touch with prices?

Yes, a totally unnecessary and unhelpful response that Robin hoped to make part of his points scoring contribution to this forum.:giggle: Personally I prefer to get a single quote from a reputable installer, who in this case was recommended and we've used before, prior to wasting the time of...

Double Glazing - out of touch with prices?

Yes, I think you've pretty much nailed the spec there? Internal bars I believe? Having found the invoice for windows we had fitted 10 years ago I've clearly lost touch with prices!:( Probably influenced by Homes under the Hammer where the purchaser can roof repair, install heating, bathroom...

Double Glazing - out of touch with prices?

Thankyou, yes 1/4 is about right, but in this case the bars are more expensive than the DG units themselves! Is £1000 per window the ball park figure we can expect?

Double Glazing - out of touch with prices?

We've been looking to replace 2 x wooden casement windows about 900mm wide and 1300mm high with new pastel or wood coloured UPVC. One opening, ground floor. It's a long time since we've bought windows and have had a price just shy of £2,000 to supply and fit which may or may not be excessive...

    Double glazed secondary glazing?

We currently have a single glazed secondary panel screwed to the inner frame of a wooden sash window. With an increase in traffic noise it's no longer up to the job and I'm considering replacing with a double glazed panel but these don't seem to be readily available? We can get sliding units...

How to Remove Dried Cement from between Sandstone Slabs

Not a direct answer to your question but a soapy mix of washing up liquid or a de-greasing fluid can apparently be used to remove easy jointing should you need to.
