Mixing Dry Screed Right, driving me nuts.

Half the sand first then most of the water, then all the cement, then the rest of the sand, then add any more water if need be. You may need to use the shovel in the middle of the mixer to turn it over too, as the drum turns.

    Foundation for a Shed

I put up one of the keter sheds a few years ago. I already had a base but it was very un-level. The sheds use a plastic base and the sections sit in the base plate if the slab is too out it just won't assemble. I cast a new base on top of existing went from like 30mm to nothing poured concrete...

    How to POUR concrete footings

I did 1.3m3 in an afternoon (first time doing concrete mixing). You will be fine! Wear a mask and rubber gloves. Use a shovel to chuck the ballast in - Ideally off a flat surface (measure how many shovels fill a bucket). Don't pick up buckets of ballast into the mixer as it will kill your back...

    How to POUR concrete footings

Easy, 4 jumbo bags of ballast, 20 bags of cement. Get everything ready: 7 buckets (£1 each at b and q) - 6 x ballast, 1 x cement. Hose pipe, decent extension lead for mixer. If you can get hold of some plywood sheets build a bay for your ballast, it's hard work shovelling out of the bags when...

    Building a Shed

...As it was on demand, the fact I'd underestimated slightly wasn't an issue as we just paid for the extra bit instead of falling short of the shuttering. My neighbour went with the cement mixer and bags approach and must have been laying his slab for days, spread over several weekends and evenings.

Advice on Block work corners for extension

be careful as the paddle mixer can over plasticise it, it’s a different mix action to a slow moving drum. I noticed recently that small areas I’d done with the paddle were noticeable softer a few days later than a normal mix. Whether that’s an actual long term problem I don’t know but why take...

Advice on Block work corners for extension

I use 2 buckets of sand and half bucket of cement at a time. I add this to water in flexitub. Quick mix with shovel. Then mix with paddle on drill. Comes out perfect everytime. ;)

Advice on Block work corners for extension

Mixer on stand is far better than on the ground, have the barrow next to it and tip your mix into gorilla tubs in the barrow (average half cement bag mix gives about 3 tub fulls) Then you can clean it much easier than if it’s on the ground and tip the dirty water into another tub. Upturned...

    Building a Shed

Hello I have ordered a new Keter 8 X 11 plastic shed, and plan to keep one or two of my push bikes in it. I plan to secure them via a Gold Secure ground anchor. However the shed will need a base, I am considering making a concrete slab my self by ordering the cement and other bits and mixing...

Two story extension and renovation - DIY

Cement mixer is B and Q but I picked it up on gumtree for £150, it had only been used to build a garage and was a lot cleaner than it is now :) https://www.diy.com/departments/build-buddy-370w-230v-cement-mixer-134l-bb134-a/405789_BQ.prd I think the laser should suit everything I need it for...

Concrete patio pouring - who will do it?!

The companies who arrive with a truck loaded with water sand and cement, plus a mixer, to mix at your door, will barrow it, lay and level it for you. Providing you have the shuttering in place ready. They are not expensive and specialise in the smaller deliveries of concrete.

Slow going - my double storey extension build

...to lay. The biggest challenge was the weather which was hot and causing the mortar go off pretty darn quick. I bought my MacAllister cement mixer about 5 years ago for £150 from B&Q, and have used it a few times before...but it’s about to have the busiest year of its life!! First mortar mix...
